Very thorough explanation. Another example of adaptive radiation would be the diversification of cichlid species in the African lakes (maybe it was indeed mentioned and I missed it), namely Lake Malawi and Lake Tanganyika. I've never held any of those species myself (I had a few convict cichlids for some years; it was fascinating to watch genetics at play with the coloring during breeding, with the main colors being dominant, and the leucistic variant being recessive). Perhaps I will someday hold some of the African cichlids.
