Out of all the “Multiliners”, the “COPIC Multiliner” is my most favorite. It may be expensive (for a pen), but it’s worth every penny, because they’re Ink Refillable, and they’re made of an excellent material.
@Yarnooee
@Yarnooee Жыл бұрын
you can actually refill any these fine-liners if you have long nose flier and syringe. and it is way cheaper than copic’s refillable inktank. just pop the tip out and drop 2-3ml ink. be sure that you should use pigment ink for fountain pens, since those inks design for not clog your pen tips. in my case, platinum’s carbon ink was the best.

I've used all these liners multiple times each except for the pencil looking one. My favorite is actually the staedtler liner; with a caveat, the nibs have a tendency to split into two after a while (a few months of use). This will result in a split line especially when drawing circles or when drawing something that makes you rotate the pen when drawing. They feel fantastic in the hand and a brand new pen seems to roll and handle over any paper superbly. A test I wish he would have performed is drawing a line and letting it dry completely, then erasing over top of it to see how much the line faded. This would simulate someone who pencils out their drawings first, then erases after lining. I feel like the staedtler excels here. I like the microns also. Another great pen. I hate the feel of the uni pens. Personal preference, I guess, but to me they feel so cheap and arent enjoyable to use. The copic pens are awesome also but, he's right, the pens are just too expensive. I have kids who draw also, so pens come up missing all the time. I'm not going to spend money on a potential pen getting lost in the aether.

FINALLY I found someone, who actually mentioned the poor uni's, I feel like they are the underdog, cuz everywhere I look for fineliner reviews, everyone keeps mentioning Sakura microns, and uniball is nowhere to be seen. I have one micron, which I bought because everyone keeps raving about it, and guess I wanted to see if it actually is true, and I swear, it smudges so bad... Even after hours of drying, one swipe with a marker and you see smudge. And all I use them for is for my bullet journals (sometimes for art), where's I used uni's for years and years, and I've never had to complain. I'm kinda wanting to try Staedlers as well, I love both how the exterior of the barrel looks, and how it performs, for a journal the pigment is perfect for me. I would change second place with the micron with Staedler anytime. And honestly, I'll just say it, I'll be a savage.... Microns are overrated 😛 Step down for to the Uni king!

Essentially I grew up with the Stabilo so I am not too surprised - however, I have the feeling that there is significantly less ink in those now than during the 1990s.
@fullmontis
@fullmontis 2 жыл бұрын
The HUGE problem with the stabilo pen is that it is water based dye and not pigment ink, which means that firrst it's not lightfast, and second it will completely dissolve if you get moisture anywhere near your linework. It may not be a dealbreaker for someone but it is for me. Shame because it is definitely an amazing pen considering the price.
@Yarnooee
@Yarnooee Жыл бұрын
in my country, sakura is 1$ and uniball is 6$. in my opinion, i don't think the manufacturing cost of these fineliners are that high. the price just varied by how each company invest different countries with different investments. so, just buying most cheaper one in your country. in my case, its sakura.
@shemshem9998
@shemshem9998 Жыл бұрын
You have to rember for copic, they where traditionally for manga artists. because of that manga and animation are still a large target groep for the company, meaning that they are meant to be used over and over again for long durations, hence why they are refillable, that's also the reason for the price, you only need to buy one pen, and when you realise that once the pen is empty the refill things make the pen cheaper than a lot of the non refillables once your at that point of having gone trough 3 pens or so. But for these kinds of products I never worry for the price. Like you said they last forever, so I don't mind it something costs a few bucks more if I only need a few and it will last me for a long long time

Fantastic video! I’m happy to see my Sakura pens fairing quite well~ When I started getting into actually inking my drawings I went out to Michael’s and just bought what looked nice, and it happened to be a cheap pack of Sakura fine liners. I loved them and never went back, but I have to say, after seeing those Uni pens, I can’t wait to go out, buy a few, and spend some relaxing time inking with them! : ) The ending twist on that pen has me absolutely stunned...!

I used the normal Copic Multiliner,the Faber-Castell Artist Pen,the other one(where the tip broke after 5 minutes of soft using unfortunaly) and the Micron. And i kinda had the feeling that i had the most control with the Micron but the fading was too big. Also i felt like the Faber-Castell Artist Pen was kinda the darkest of all i used so far

unis are good, reliable and affordable. Theres just one problem - they only come in black. If you want colors you need the ball versions (afaik). And the colors in these are not fade/uv proof, which is a huge deal breaker and why I buy sakura/faber-castell. But in the and, every pen you tested can be used. I would just suggest to pick the brand that feels best in your hand.

My favorite for sketching lines and shading with copic are the pilot precise v5 and v7. They are water based and do not smudge with copic markers. The line is consistent, keeps up with any speed, and writes smoother than a plastic or felt tip. I have tried copic multiliner, staedtler, flair, and a few others and the Pilot Precise V5 and V7s rule for me. The only thing is that I have not found a good bold liner. The pilot bravo is great but does smudge with copic markers. I just ordered some pilot precise V10s and hoping they will be as good as the v5 and V7s but bolder.

I don't usually watch reviews, but because I keep changing pens thought it might be helpful and I was right. If something doesn't work right I assume the problem is with me, not the tools. That said, I've used all but a couple of the pens evaluated and can say I don't disagree with any of the results. I'm an "Old School" artist and when practical I even still use dip pens. I work primarily in pen, ink and watercolor. Generally I use Micron or Copic and I like them both. I recently purchased a set of Windsor & Newton's pens. Expensive, but they work just fine most of the time. I find they aren't as smooth as the others. I don't want to get into the habit of pressing harder because I also frequently use brush pens and they require a very light, delicate touch. Windsor & Newton's will sometimes drag a little, especially on paper with more texture. I hope you will consider reviewing the Windsor & Newton pens and also the large number of brush pens that are hitting the market. I'm finding there is a wide range of these pens and it can be daunting to find one that will fit the need. (I'm currently using mostly Pentel.) I threw away the first brush pens, Microns that came with a package of other pens, and almost gave them up as just a gimmick. Then I learned about some others and decided to give it another try. I'm glad I did. The learning curve is pretty steep but worth it. Thanks again for the reviews and I hope to see more of them. Count me in as a new subscriber. JC

You should test it on cheap paper. The Sakura Micron has a diluted ink which means line feathers on contact with the paper and if you were to draw lines at a slower pace, the lines will be not have consistent width and it will blot the paper slightly. It makes sense it didn't perform well in the smudge test. I do love my Uni Pins too! It was cheaper. Much much cheaper 2 decades ago. It was cheaper than the Pilot G-tec. Also, varying pressure on paper allows for varying line widths. Someone hacked these pens to make them refillable. I hope Uni can make a refillable version too.

There are of course a few more pens you should check out, Zig Millennium, faber-castell brush and maybe pilot (very cheap). The Sakura's I find the nibs break. There are of course a lot if you also purchase off the internet

I know this videos old But my Favorite fine liner I use a lot Is The Tombo Calligraphy Brush pen (hard). U want great Line weight Variations while keeping a sharp Point BOOM, U want good pigment BOOM, you want extreme control BOOM, the only thing that Makes this fine liner Down for me personally it’s extremely slow inflow But I give it a pass sense It helps me Pay attention to what lines I can use in my art to get the best results possible. Tombo does have a soft brush and Not gonna lie I do use that in Some of my drawing But It is softer than the Hard Variant(Obviously) Which makes it A little bit harder to get the best likes But still holds Most of the Facts that I said about the Harder Variant, also :D

Nice video. 5 years w/the Uni Pin?? Impressive and surprising. I'm assuming the pen gets consistent use from you weekly. I would like to see you compare the top pens from this list using a few different papers. I would also like your thoughts on the cheaper plastic version of the Copic Multiliner, and I'd like to see you try the best-scoring pens on a few different papers. For me, I've used Pigma Microns more than others, and I haven't found near the longevity that you mentioned w/the Uni Pin...I wonder though if it's the nib giving out or the ink supply? Anyway, you made a very helpful video.

Where are you finding 10 packs of microns for less than a dollar per pen? Even online the 10 packs run about $20. In art stores they usually retail for at least ~$26. How are you getting microns at wholesale prices?

True. The stabilos are not archival grade. They fade and are not water resistant. I don't know if you can seal them with something, but yeah for work, Sakuras are king imho.

I tried a faber-Castell liner once and it lasted maybe 2 weeks compared to the Microns which can last me 2-3 sometimes four months

honestly Im shocked as I have the reverse problem lol. Im a bit heavy handed and lobe bold lines my Microns always get shoved up the barrel and split. Plus I hate how short the nibs are lol.
