This is a quick and easy way to add any character or just simply change the player character in the new motion matching game animation sample project. We also take a look at how to add our own custom mesh to traverse. You can use this method on pretty much any mesh that uses the UE4/5 skeleton.

LOL, I already knew how to bring in a character into GAS but you taught me a simple technique to create those traveral walls and ledges. Cant believe I did not think to do it that way, thanks man !

Hey Bro! Would you be able to explain the process with modular pieces? I tried adding them as a child to the mesh and then setting leader pose with all the attached pieces, but it wasn't able to load. Great content btw!

i assume the bone names have to be the same with the original mesh, otherwise you'll have to manually assign each bones to the retargeter. this is one problem i had with ue5 while trying to retarget all the uefn mannequin animations to my custom base model.

You know there's a function on KZbin that allows you to speed up our slow down the playback speed right? Just click/press the cog...

This helped resolve morphing issues I was having with my CC4 character, but the character is stuck in the A pose without animations. I noticed right away at the 2:32 mark when the TwinBlast character has an idle anim, but my character has no anim. A common error message I got when playing around was pointing to the SET IKRetarger node in the ABP_GenericRetarget BP. Any suggestions?

why don't you use this same process and set the default pawn as your character which you will create with this method? IF you want to transfer everything you need to setup its own animation BP and make databases , schemas and chooser tables for your character. It is a lengthy process and may not work efficiently as well if everything does not go well.

It's been three weeks, so I hope you've got it figured out, but if not. I think you want to get ALS into your project. 'create' a new project with ALS. Once it's loaded right click on the 'advancedlocomotion' folder in your content folder and click merge. Select YOUR project and that's it. Close Unreal and open up your project. If you need further help just holla, I frequent KZbin too often for UE5 content.

My comment could be out of ignorance. But I vehemently believe that re-targeting in UE5 is too convoluted.. hope they implement a better way to do this for this EXTREMELY common need in UE.

retargeting is easier then even in 5.4 there are several tutorials out there how to do this.

When I do it, my character is lowered by 100cm in the retargeter and when playing the character is in the floor. Adjusting translation offset to X:0 Y:0 Z:100 "fixes" it but IK breaks ( it acts as if the player is higher up when crouching or grabbing a ledge ). What can I do?

So I did manage to do just that and succeeded only once. I wasn't happy with the character so chose another character and merged and now it doesn't compile as it did the first time. Now when I did manage to do it the second time it does but without the animations 🤔

@@probuzzgaming You need to make sure that the project you are merging this into has all of the required plug-ins for motion matching turned on. Did you do that ?

Hi,bro,nobody has metioned about that,and I ran into the same problem,haha,nobody cares about the deatials,I figured that out, open the retargeter which was generated ,and make sure to check the "IK" box, it was at the top of retargeter panel

you can make a tutorial on how to do the animation with a sword, for example, so the animation is then changed slightly so that it looks like he is carrying a sword 😅?

I could potentially put the swords on the back of the character and make it so that with a button, you can bring the swords out and put them back on the back

i followed this but it seems like only my characters legs work properly his upper body is still in a t pose, the retargeter said it was unable to find the root bone, amongst other bones

idk what to say bro i haven't had any issues with this method and I've done it with multiple different characters... it might be that the character you are trying to use doesn't use the manny skeleton

@CTRLsway I would suggest trying to rig with a character that already uses the skeleton like the paragon ones just to confirm it works for you... I'm pretty sure it will, but just to be on the safe side

The default GASP is not set up for replication, there are other projects people have altered that are though e.g. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6vOlXWud96VfMk

Kind of a shame that parkour isn't purely coded parkour, and you need a BP to tell the character to hop and how to hop.

A hard lesson learned! Always always always duplicate whatever it is your about to muck about with. I hope it hasn't put you off, you can recover it. Just re-import the assets at a worst case scenario and you'll fix it.
