I've done something similar with snares. Only real difference is I gated the parallel to even further emphasize the attack.

What is this "phasing when parellel compressing" technique everybody is talking about

a. basic, general explanation is when there two tracks playing the exact same thing (not doubled recordings but an exact copy) and you change one of them they they are out of phase with each other. it can be cool or really bad. two kicks playing that are out of phase with each will sometimes make the kick sound weaker. every band of an eq will introduce phase. its not always a bad thing like I said but you should research it in more depth to get an understanding of it because it can ruin a mix and you wont know why.

+Bandana585 to add to that, if you experience a weaker sounding bass or kick drum (because out of phase), you want to put a linear eq at the end of both which will allow the phase to be equal and therefore eliminating the loss of power you get with out of phase kicks. There are also plugins that can allow phase match (Waves has one).

When I parrallel compress in fl studio i always get phase issues because the compressor delays the signal in some way i think, how can i make sure the bass frequencies are kept in phase while parrallel compressing?

Richard Lionheart Throw that same exact compressor on the "dry" track with all settings to a place where it isn't effecting the signal. Same delay as the other without the effect.

even if you're rolling off some low and boosting some highs... wouldn't some degree of phasing happen if you duplicate the sample and play the eq'd version over the original?

+A. Z. Imo in this case it does not matter that much. The low end is cutted so drastically, so there's really nothing that can be out of phase in the low end..

And i bet dave has already taken care of the phase issue, if there was any to begin with. But its interesting..I didin't hear any phase issues when i listened the video..

I did. By "whacked out" I meant the dry and processed wave forms will interact in unpredictable ways when doing parallel processing. I notice some plugins do this worse than others. I'm sure there is a latency factor too, which again WILL create phase issues. I can use my ears to deal with this, but I don't really have a clear method or options. I notice amateur mixes sound more and more out of phase these days because everyone is doing parallel now. Important shit like vocals. Should be addressed.
