Hey guys remember to undo this when your working for a client! This is epic but i forgot while doing commissions, I'd be finished now but I remembered theyre all copyrighted so had to sadly undo it all:') I now have actions to add or remove copyright, Im feeling very professional. Thank you so much Mike! :D

The client should not get copyright of your work. As an artist you have ownership of everything you make, the client only has specific rights of usage. "The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 came into force on 1 August 1989. The act does not make specific provisions for commissioned works, which means that copyright remains with the artist who created the work, unless a written agreement assigns copyright to someone else." source: dacs.org

Ahh thanks for letting me know! I definitely need to do my research, I get lost with ownership when I'm being paid well. Thanks for raising this to my attention!

Thank you so much, very helpful! 2020 version of Photoshop, we do not need to do the script part anymore, just creating template is enough otherwise software is creating complications.

DO NOT USE THIS if you are running the current 2020/2021 versions of Photoshop! Unfortunately it really messes with the application... there is no longer any History (it just says "File Info" repeatedly) and same thing with undo button. You can't undo any tasks. There's also a pop-up that repeatedly comes up saying "The object 'current document' is not currently available" - no matter what you click, it pops up repeatedly. This is the second time I have tried this video and the second time this has happened. I thought I may have made an error in my first try, but no. It is very frustrating. I now have to go back to Adobe customer support to get my settings back to normal. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time with this if you have the current versions!

Hi Mic. Very clear and very interesting. Thank you for the step by step instructions. However, I have a question. I can see these Metadata information when exported/save as in JPEG can be modified or removed. Is there a method of hard coding it in the file? Thank you in advance.

Sorry Mr. Hoffman, but I followed the steps in this video 3 times to the letter, and nothing. Photoshop CS6. I still have to manually add copyright symbols on each photo I open.
@MichaelHoffman8 жыл бұрын
Hi Dr. McGuire, this technique doesn't add any symbols, it is only adding the metadata to the image. If you want a watermark, see my tutorials on watermarking.

What a great tutorial. I was able to pause and go into my photoshop and walk step by step with you...until it came to adding an action. This is where it stopped for me, there was no add action perhaps because I am using elements 11. But now that I did the first steps I guess I have to add it manually, is there a tutorial on how to do that and the best place to postition the copyright on a photo? You are a great teacher, all other tutorial's I watched went so fast, couldn't even follow them. will be visiting you website. Thank you for taking the time to help those who are not tech savvy with photoshop.

Hi Michael, great video, thanks for sharing! However, I have also followed step by step but When I click 'done' in the scripts event manager, it doesn't seem to save the script settings. When I open scripts event manager again 'script' is automatically selected. The action isn't triggered when I open a new document or create a new one. I'm using CC2020.

Michael, thanks for your video. Running that action when creating a new document seems straightforward. I see a couple possible issues running it when opening a document. One, noted in another comment, is that this would add your copyright info when looking at a file someone else created / holds copyright on. Also, if you choose to append copyright info, won't that blow up your metadata by continuing to add it each time you open your file? Do you know if there's a way to mitigate these problem-- perhaps some kind of IF statement before action plays? (check for copyright; if none, then play action) . Thanks again!

Actually it seems this has created some problems. I can see that obviously the NEW PS-CC has a new presentation when you open 'File Info...' BUT even though there was no 'Description TAB' Only a BASIC area to fill in information and more options too. I used that. Now it wants to open the 'Scripts Event Manager' Every time I open an image. Uhg.. it blows. If it doesn't do that I wants to open a photo I had open while I was doing the set up.

Because I can't open File Info... (without a file open) to record the action... It always opens the same file or file type that I had open when doing the action. Across the board. 8-9 tries or more here & still no luck making it work.

@MichaelHoffman8 жыл бұрын
Hi Julia, I don't think it matters how or when you name the image; the Copyright will follow. For most of my photographs, I name them when I import into Lightroom; for my graphic designs and other art, I "Save" or "Save As" in Photoshop. Either way is OK.

When done creating the copyright template, does it impose an image on a photo or video?
@MichaelHoffman6 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn’t create any image. The data is stored in the metadata of the photo. To create an image, you’d need to add a watermark.

I'm confused. I added the copyright information to the image, posted the image on LinkedIn, saved the LinkedIn image, and then checked to see if the copyright information was there. Unfortunately, it was not. Am I missing a step?
@MichaelHoffman3 жыл бұрын
How did you save your image? Did you include the copyright information when you exported/saved it? Did you validate that the file you uploaded to LinkedIn had the copyright metadata? If so, then LinkedIn is stripping it out.
@GPBAMB3 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelHoffman that’s what I am thinking. If I go back to the same image I exported to LinkedIn, the copyright data is there. It’s after it gets posted and saved, that everything is missing.
@garybrake3 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelHoffman Also, I looked at the Adobe copyrighted image by using the Microsoft Image Viewer, then selected "File Info", nothing in there about the image being copyrighted. So, is this copyright information just specific to Adobe, and no one caring if they append a header to the image, as they just ignore it? If so, then the only thing I can do at this point is to just add the copyright on the image, which is what I was trying to avoid. If I put on the bottom, people will just crop it out. If I put in the center, then it becomes obnoxious. Have you seen the same with the Microsoft Image Viewer?
@Raveron5 жыл бұрын
Is there any place I could get download that action I cannot create actions in Photoshop elements
@jennylharrellcatron14544 жыл бұрын
You should have an option in your camera to put in copyright at the time of capture and therefore, you don't need to put anything in photoshop. All of my work has been copyrighted since the beginning of the time I started shooting. If there was ever a question about an image, all you have to do is go into the meta data and guess what, there I am!

Nice tutorial but the one big problem is the fact if you open a photograph not owned by yourself containing a clear copyright field you are falsely taking copyright over.
