Not sure what was the issue but I was getting weird spacing issues between the letters for the Hack font. My fix was to write "Hack Nerd Font" instead of "Hack" in the alacritty.yml file. (Linux distro: ubuntu). Thanks for making this video, Chris. Hope my fix helps someone.

omfg its realy like my tutor said: "People are always arguing about IDE Stuff, then they realize all they need is a simple Editor with some formatting functions and in the end they will be trying to create a new IDE out of an basic Editor ... Its always the same ! " While watching this kind of Videos now for more than 2h now i start to realize hes completly right ! So in the end i will take Jetbrains IDE's (because they are nearly fully automated) and using vim plugin inside it -> best of both worlds ❤

I am new to all of this... New to Linux and new to vim. But I could not get this to work. I am running Linux Mint 20.1 and yes I am running vim 8 and not neovim. Could it be as simple as that? The only way I got it to work was to install vim-devicons plugin. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?

@antonioochoa34824 жыл бұрын
Your terminal emulator should have ligatures support. For example, Fira Code's GitHub tells you wich terminal emulators are compatible with that font: github.com/tonsky/FiraCode#terminal-compatibility-list. It says that Gnome terminal doesn't support ligatures for Fira Code

Hey! How you got ligatures working in Alacritty?
@lorensims48464 жыл бұрын
Why would you want ligatures in a terminal font? I would personally prefer to have a monospaced font there as well.

I have downloaded a bunch of fonts, but I'm not getting the right icons. My .vim files are getting a cellphone full wifi logo. My cpp files are getting a telephone max volume icon... I'm using the default Ubuntu terminal. The way I changed my font was to use the terminal preference gui. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm fond of the Terminus font, because it's very readable even at a small size, so if I want these (say, the branch character for instance) how can I use them without changing my font outside of doing my own font? Up until now I used to install dejavu or noto-fonts alongside terminus, so that if a character isn't found in terminus it's displayed from another font that features it. There's something flawed in my mind about changing a whole font just to display a few specific characters

I'm using Alacritty and having a strange issue. The font proportions are all wrong, and I've tried several different nerd fonts and they all render as the exact same font but with messed up spacing. I've tried a bunch of different attempts to fix this to no avail. If anyone has any suggestions let me know. I'm on manjaro.

I tried that also,I'm a noob but I found that in the alacritty.yml I need to specify the full font name in the config file. For example, "Hack Nerd Font" or "JetBrainsMono Nerd Font".And the name of these can be get by running "fc-list | grep 'Hack'" for example, and it will show up the font name and the type available at the end of each line

@al-du6lb3 жыл бұрын
@@nicklesseos What I ended up doing was manually installing JetBrainsMono and nerd fonts icons and that seems to be the only font I can get to work with alacritty with all the icons working properly. It would be nice to switch the font, but I'm perfectly happy with the current set up. www.jetbrains.com/lp/mono/
