@@SakkakuTamashi It wouldn't be so bad if every single graphics design noob didn't use it. Next to papyrus it's one of the main fonts that scream "Hey lookie! I'm quirky!" while also being generic as all hell. Also I don't like too many curves on my fonts.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I enjoyed the deep penetrating gaze of this man while he said “My pogchamp” it made me feel safe, like being the little spoon in a warm bed in a forest cabin during a blizzard storm. Curse KZbin for only allowing us to subscribe once.

Comic Mono really is quite good. It's a nice monospace font if you've got dyslexia.

I have always been a fan of the Hack font set. Its easy to read, distinguishes well between similar characters, and has a nice look to it.

Iosevka is wayyyy cooler than you'd think. It has endless customizability, down to the spacing, weight, etc, and the user can build it themselves. There's also a version of the font called extended, which takes care of your spacing concerns.

I was using JetBrains Mono for over 6 months. It looks nice, all the letters are different, it has ligatures. I'm using the Nerd Font version of it because I don't wanna break my terminal.

Iosveka also has an advantage when it comes to CJK users, because it is exactly half the width of CJK characters. (CJK: Chinese, Japanese, Korean)

My go-to font both for terminal and IDE has been - for a few years now - Victor Mono. Is just plain awesome. My second favorite is Cascadia Code, but I use the Caskaydia Cove Nerd Font version.

Fira code used to be my go-to for a long time, but I recently switched to JetBrains Mono. It is very similar to fira, but is easier for me to read (especially after staring at it for some time)

Huh. Nice vid! Fira Sans/Code and Cascadia I knew about and use, but I've never thought of using Comic Mono, and now I actually consider it, so thanks for that😅. Also I didn't know of apples font, so I'll look into that too. The one thing I'd like to add, for general UI, is a Roboto variant (yeah we already had apple and Microsoft, gotta include Google too:))

there's a lot of other neat fonts out there. I've recently been using jetbrains mono and it seems that its pretty readable for me and has a bunch of thick and thin variants if you find the default one too bold or loosely spaced. I personally am comfortable with it since I've used Intellij before and am used to its fonts. There's also other cool fonts like Calling Code,Code New Roman, Ra Mono,etc that look good to. But there's nothing more og than misc-fixed.

My favorite font because I find it the nicest looking but also the easiest to read is Menlo. I am happy because DejaVu Sans Mono and Hack are both free and basically the same, but there is something about the things Apple did to make Menlo (Specifically the underscore, dash, 0, and asterisk) that make it my favorite font. The l and 1 distinction is also super on point I also really like how the linux distros I use use DejaVu Mono as the default mono font so the transition is pretty seamless. I really like Monaco (a bespoke Apple font) and SF Mono too but not as much as Menlo. I like Fira on my Good Retina display but on my sad old 1080p monitors it blows lol. Menlo works at any resolution and size

I noticed a lack of serif fonts here! There is only one I like for monospace and that's IBM Plex. I use it for keeping notes, which I have in markdown files and is the overwhelming bulk of my actual text editing (I'm not a programmer or system administrator). On the terminal I use Hack. Very simple no frills but very high legibility typeface. I also dislike ligatures a lot. Characters on a terminal, and especially in code, have a semantic meaning. Both a unicode meaning and one concerned with their function. So I would never readily endorse a ligature font, and I recommend Matthew Butterick's essay on opposing programming ligatures.

My test for IDEs is to choose a small sized font and see how hard it is to read. I choose the easiest to read and don't even know the names. However, I will test your fonts and compare it to what I have currently.

I've never had the need to move beyond DejaVu Sans Mono. Also: "We all have the vocabulary to talk about colours" - well then, how would I say this "the colourscheme is too blue-ish" vs. "this colourscheme is too greenish" in Japanese?

I used Terminus for some years, but now I have totally switched to Sf Mono. Minimal, not fancy but does do job even on non retina displays. Anyway, you have some sort of tiling wm for the Mac? Or it's just the terminal centered in the screen?

If you publish or write documents in custom fonts, and if someone else goes to open those documents and they don't have the custom font, what happens? Do they get jibberish? or does it just convert it to something like a generic font? Thanks.

If you're publishing a Word document, Word is going to warn you that the font you're using is not available and will (try to) replace it with a similar font. On the web, we usually embed fonts into the websites themselves, so that they get loaded onto your computer when you open the webpage that uses those fonts. If that font is not available (e.g. if the user explicitly has custom fonts disabled), a generic font is used

I think its not just about the fonts, its also about where u use it, for example the same font does not look the same across different operating systems. Adding more, the same font will not render the same in all programs within the same OS. Just as an example, the font u like the most Comic Mono looks so ugly in Rider IDE, but it looks a bit better in WebStorm and might look better in Visual Studio code. So, from my experience you not only have to check the font, but also where u use it.

Operating systems? On Windows I found like three or four font renderers. It looks different in VS Code, Visual Studio 2019, Vivaldi, Firefox and Word. Maybe some are the same. Readability also depends on screen DPI. But my most used by order are: JetBrains Mono, JuliaMono (math symbols, quite good in general), IBM Plex Mono (matches IBM Plex family in reveal.js presentations and it's decent for terminals). In the long term I always tend to return to JetBrains, until it gets boring. Before it was Droid Sans Mono Slashed (with slashed zero). Input is also good, but non-free for commercial use (screenshots, presentations I guess)

Comic has one drawback: lowercacse l and 1 are too close. Fira is the best! Will try. Any font with unintelligible lI| does not have right to exist.
