In the pilot, Cherri just seems like a destructive sinner out for more territory, but this song shows that she's a supportive friend to Angel and even gives insight to her use of explosives.

*Almost everything about this video (and Angel):* -This song was originally made by Silva Hound in their channel and they were able to get Angel’s actual voice actor to make the song. Later they made tons of remixes one with the sad lines in the after credits scene. After, Viv liked the song so much that she decided to make it canon and make an animated music video. -This song takes place after the pilot. (This is debated by a lot of people and I wont explain why but yes it takes place after and that is canon.) -Angel’s real name is Anthony and he died of an overdose of PCP (aka angel dust) in 1947 in his late 30s. He was born into an Italian mafia in new york with his father, Henroin, his brother, Arackniss, and his twin sister Molly. His dad didn’t aprove of him being gay so he was kicked out of his house, going into sex work very young. It is theorized he, as well as everyone in his family, is a spider demon to simbolize his family’s *web of crimes* . -Viv has said that Cherri does all of the destroying and taking territories (not only because that’s who she is) but also because she is trying to become an overlord so she can get Angel off of Valentino’s clutches. -Valentino is Angel’s pimp, and most hated character in the fandom. We know that he is an overlord and was a human who died. He makes part of a trio of overlords called the V’s together with Vox, a TV demon that has rivalry with Alastor, and Velvet the overlord of social media. (It is theorized that every overlord represents a sort of media, Val porn, Vox TV, Alastor radio etc) -There is a comic posted on the official hazbin hotel web site that is a prequel to the pilot showing how Angel got to the hotel and more about his abuse. I would really recommend reading it although it isin’t currently available in the site since with the release date of the show being realesed the web site is only a place where you can “check in” to the hazbin hotel. But there are tons of comic dubs here on youtube if you want to check it out and Im sure you can find the comic easily. -In the music video there is a lot of subtle things in angel’s pole dancing choreography that are saying a kind of “fuck you” to Val, theres a great video made by one of the storyboarders that pole dances, that shows the choreography as well as those little details. -It is also theorized that the cigarettes that both angel and Val smoke with the red smoke are some sort of tranquilizer or controler that val uses to make his employees more compliant. You can see in the middle of Angel’s dance when he inhales the smoke he all of a sudden goes from saying fuck you to val to dancing “happily”. -Angel has a strange fascination with fish and while he can’t take care of them he really loves them, thats why the club that he is in with cherry has so many aquariums and fish. His favorite is the blob fish which also shows up. -While Angel and cherri are getting out of the destroyed club we can se some neon signs inside it, one of them says “it was all a dream” this makes a lot of people think that everything the happens after Cherri jumps off the bridge and there is a white screen, is a dream. They never destroyed the strip club, after all Angel would probably be punished for it. Also note how in that sequence Angel is literally wearing rose tinted glasses. -Angel’s pig is called Fat nuggets and you can buy him as a plush on the official Hazbin merch store, I was able to pre order it which gave me a bonus pin of Angel and Nuggies hugging which is absolutely adorable. And fun fact, his twin sister Molly is in heaven (and maybe his mom also) while the rest of his family is in hell with him. Maybe that would be his main motivation to reform himself and go to heaven to reunite with her. With also to escape from Valentino. And, he doesn't like his feet. That why he always wear boots, cuz it makes him feel like a monster, since they are spider legs. Sorry for my garbage English.

If I am not mistaken it comes from old zoophobia lore but either way viv never confirmed that Molly or Angel's mom we're in heaven. Also yeah! How can a song be so catchy, yet so depressing at the same time? The whole thing comes across as Angel Dust convincing himself that he loves this lifestyle, while we see all the parts he's clearly uncomfortable with. And yet I can't stop humming along to it. I'm just glad that Cherri Bomb is there for him. And seriously, screw Valentino!

This song shows us that not every sinner is necessarily a bad person. Some, like Angel and Cherri, have simply become so enthralled in a particular habit or way of living to cope with traumatic experiences to the point that they don't really know any other way to go about living (or unliving in their case). For Cherri, it's engaging in anarchistic activities to escape the feeling of loss and/or betrayal of the unnamed sinner in her portion of the song (presumably an ex-boyfriend). For Angel, it's his dependency on drugs and his career as a prostitute in order to cope with Valentino's sexual abuse. Hopefully Charlie can help them heal.

Prior to his death, Angel Dust was a member of the Mafia in New York City in 1947, if I recall correctly. FYI Helluva Boss touches upon more of the Hellborn side {demons born as demons in hell as opposed to Sinners/Earthborn demons like Angel Dust} of Hell and Hell's society {which is actually fascinating and complex, from a sociopolitical standpoint}. The first two episodes of Helluva Boss are funny and wacky but the third hits differently and really set the stage for deeper avenues {not trying to spoil anything here}.

With Helluva Boss being made in-house and already a season and a half in while Hazbin Hotel is kept tightly under wraps at a real TV studio, I'd forgotten how good it was until rewatching it with you, and how much hype surrounded it even in the months long before the pilot was released. There's a short prequel comic where Angel meets Maggie and Charlie, we see a bit into his life, and the most significant part apart from the 'redemption, sounds silly huh Nugs?' comment he makes to his pet pig (Fat Nuggets), would be when we see a box full of sex toys that had 'fun stuff' written on it but that's now been crossed out and is relabelled 'work s***'. So we know he has no trouble being a porn star, but that his boss/pimp Valentino......well I guess has taken he fun out of the job for Angel. He makes him work on the streets whenever he misses out on filming work. So we know that that's another reason why he stays at the hotel, buys him some security and safety from his pimp.
