First time i heard this song i was a couple years into recovery from a nearly decade long oxy-fentanyl and crack addiction. Helped get to where i am now. Because i found that around the 2 year mark i was starting to feel depressed and anxious again. Like i didnt know what to do with my self anymore. Started smoking crack again. Didnt get into the fentanyl again thank god. And luckily my crack relapse only last a few weeks. This song helped me get through that time. Madchild is an inspiration to me. Hes from my city (vancouver) and was associated with alot of the same bad people i was with back in the day. Havent touched crack in over 2 years now. No drinking either. I smoke a bit of weed but my main focus has been providing for my 7 year old daughter, and staying healthy in the gym.

Perhaps but as they mention in the song, addiction is something that is a lifelong fight. People continue to go to meetings after they get clean. I have 8 years clean and I still go. More often when someone stops coming to meeti gs its because they lost their battle with addiction and not because they decided they don't need meetings anymore. But that's just based off my experience and you could be right in his artistic choice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!

Congratulations on your Sobriety. I've been sober since 88, when I was 19. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley in the 80s was a hell of a time. Check out Tom's "Best Rapper Ever" (it's NOT what you may think it is). One of the things that makes Tom so special, is his openness and honesty about what he's going/gone through. Like you, I can relate to a lot of what he's saying. He's a truly one of a kind artist out there. Keep doing what you're doing and take things one day at a time. Edit to add: To ME, the people disappearing from the chairs, relapsed. We've all seen it; the person that has it all together, that's at every meeting, that has 5 people they are sponsoring......and then they disappear for a few weeks. One night they show up, and they are introducing themselves as newly sober. If nothing else, it's a reminder that it's ALWAYS a battle. It's also a reminder to remain humble and grateful.

Thank you so much! Congrats on yours as well. I absolutely LOVE his Best Rapper Ever! It really is so honest and vulnerable. Madchild didn't say he was 85 pounds from weight-loss. He said he gained 85 pounds and was only doing face pics because of how much weight he'd gained. Some addictions include an accompanying food-addiction that causes this. It's very common for addicts to have multiple addictions occurring at the same time.

I just want to comment, but this is not about me. I hope somehow my story helps someone somewhere. I am 16 years sober now. I didn't start thinking I would make it this far. I was just hoping for some change, something different. I was at my lowest point. I can still vividly see myself on the couch bottle in my hand and just knew it had to be different. I was dying inside, couldn't remember the last day I had been sober. It was hard to actually understand what I had become. After putting down the bottle I faced hardships I never knew could come. I had built my whole life around drinking. Everyone I hung around with was doing exactly what I was escaping. I found myself cut off. I had to start over. It was lonely. Day by day the sun came up, I focused hard on who I wanted to be, and built a new life. I did relaps after about a year. And in no time found myself right back where I left off. Figured it out and learned from it. The mistake. Its much less frequent now, but when I start thinking I can just have a drink or two, for Christmas, or my birthday, or whatever I now have firsthand knowledge that time doesn't matter, alcohol owns me. My freedom is only one drink away from gone. Thats my story, the short version. If your reading this and need help, please get it. Ask anyone or anywhere. Remember someone somewhere loves you. I love you. You are special and this world needs you. Be your best, be true to yourself. And try. Just try. You can't win if you don't start. Just try.

@@AccordingtoJexi you know, Bob Dylan had a tune (song) come out in 70s? Times they are a changing. Things that are going on in the world today seem to be more amplified (thought it was loud back then) but in a different way. I'll share with you a dream (from many years ago). If you are familiar with orchestras you know how at the start, before playing, they make sounds on their instruments, while the conductor is getting, getting them, ready. This is what I was seeing, hearing, and when they began to play, which was very beautiful and well begun. I began to wake up and these coyotes, about a half mile away, which I know yip and yelp (before they're in unison) became that orchestra conducted. It was amazing. I better stop
