The worst case of codependency I’ve ever witnessed was w an alcoholic mother (in recovery 2 years sober) and her covert narc daughter. The daughter is abusive and takes advantage of her mother all the time, needs her for emotional support but is always miserable and unwilling (unable??) to get help. The mom alcoholic is constantly bending over backwards and accepting the abuse because of her guilt and shame ab drinking when the narc daughter was little. Is that codependency?
