Very nice looking watch Steve. The choice of a high beat quartz movement was a good one. It's a great alternative to a mechanical one.. Lume is decent enough too. I really don't mind about that 19mm lug width. I would have been more frustrated about it a few years ago but nowadays you can find a huge variety of 19mm leather and rubber straps as well as Nato style, and a tip for those who do like Nato bands. A 20mm looks totally fine on a 19mm lug width. So if you have 20mm Nato or similar flexible straps, you're well set. Excellent review.

Steve, if you've tried it on a thin 20mm NATO style strap, let us know. BTW, it seems early QC issues with the watch stopping was related to the battery being not correctly seated. Seems a couple of people reported it on Reddit.

Been hunting for a decent 1016 homage at a reasonable price for so so so long now. This one is so close, lugs are too thick, no lug holes and light faux patina would be nice.

Will you be doing a follow up video? Interested in just how accurate the VH31 is and if there is a lot of "slop" when trying to set the time. It may be just me but I think the mecaquartz movements are the way to go 👍👍👍 I have never managed to get a 1 tick/sec quartz second hand to line up with the indices 😡

It's actually a nice piece, saw it on Watchdives the other day and really liked it. The lug size is a bummer but i'd most likely keep it on the original band anyway. In truth i had it on the back burner because i would buy it for use as a daily and the lack of date holds it back for that use. Still i'm glad to see Addies coming out with watches like this. My AD2023 arrived today. It is a beautiful watch but unfortunately mine has a faulty clasp. The micro-adjust holes on one side are drilled at an oblique angle so that the spring bar is not properly secured. Hopefully Addiesdive will respond to me soon (bit of a pity that they have not as yet). This watch is a decent homage of the early explorer. If they did a "later" version with applied indices, squarer numerals and a gloss dial I would definitely buy one as I would then have homages of my 2 favourite watches in my collection. I am a huge fan of the 36mm case and the VH31 movement 👍👍👍👍👍

It's a very nice watch. Quite a lot of 37mm watches are coming with 19mm lugs for some reason, I've an Orient Star with 19mm too, however it's gotten a lot easier to find a 19mm straps than it used to be. The bird is cool. Is it a crane? Are they just migrating through the area or live there? Thanks for the review on this, with an 8.1" wrist, might be too small but maybe they'd supply extra links.

Good question! Deep sea hunter is the tagline on the Addiesdive warranty cards, so maybe it's just a wish to try it out on a watch. A field watch isn't the best place for it!

I have reluctantly ordered one to replace my AD2112 which is the most inconsistently inaccurate watch I have ever bought. Hopefully the VH31 in this will be as accurate as another one of my watches where its VH31 runs at -0.5 sec PER WEEK ! I will be a very happy man if this is the case. I do not think the AD2023 dial is as good as the AD2112 which is stunning with its applied indices. Considering the AD2023 cost less than half that of the AD2112, this new mecaquartz is definitely the way to go (even if the 19mm strap is a bummer 😡).

I would absolutely choose high beat quartz movement over a generic mechanical. I dont see the point of collecting multiple NH35's. Also 19mm lugs are proportionally better fitting on a 37mm case

Very nice looking watch, the lug width although misleading isn't a deal breaker....at that price with a classic design you can't go wrong....first impressions I have two recommendations for them, amend the details online....also why not add more colours, a nice red or summer yellow would be perfect....🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚

Just got one and resized it. I really wanted to like this but I’ve never received a lighter weight bracelet. Very cheap feeling. Sharp edges on the lugs needed filing off. Very weird package, with cool movement, size and glass but many corners cut. Should really cost less.

Cheers for reply. I got very frustrated with the spring bars in end links not springing back into the lug holes after removing bracelet to file smooth the sharp lug corners! I had to change one of the factory spring bars for a thinner one to get it back in properly. But after that drama, it wears beautifully. Awesome size for my 6.25” wrist. Re cost, I’m comparing about the astonishing SD1980 which is cheaper, heavier and better quality across the board. I assume due to big volumes they must make of it. Whereas this VH31 model is probably more boutique volume so more expensive?
