I think I had a few misspoken pigment numbers in this video. Cobalt Teal is PG50 and Prussian Blue should be PB27. Thanks!

Changing the blue in the sky of the Yellowstone painting made such a difference 😍 the first one is so good but that second one is GORGEOUS! And the increased contrast on the sand dune paintings really makes them pop! I loved seeing the side by side before and after.

Yes! I definitely need a non-granulating blue for my RS palette!

I'm with you on the non granulating blue for skies. When I find the right blue color, it's granulating. When I find a non granulating blue it's not the right sky blue color. The search continues. I don't know why it bothers me so much but it does. And as always, so as not to disappoint your art loving friends, there was a new puppy at the end of the video. I always wait for a puppy or a kitty to appear at the end. Thanks for sharing them. 😊

So helpful to see the colors swatched out. I’m considering putting together a Roman Szmal palette and I really want to avoid colors that are too close together. I loved that granulating row! Loved the puppy too 🐶💜

Thanks, Linda! Yes, all those new colors I bought were very close to each other, so the Golden Yellow and the Quin. Burnt Sienna would be my important ones out of those 4. I love all the rest of the colors in the palette but still definitely need the dark brown and non-granulating blue.

Them Roman Szmal paints are beautiful!! I would have gone with the Coke Cola tin as it's less work faff lol, but it worked out great in the end, them oranges do look the same on camera to me but both are lovely! The paintings were gorgeous!!! Loved the colours, the subject, just everything! And What a cute puppy!!

Hi Miranda 😊, for your future interest, I managed to get 39 full pans in it (without insert). 4 rows of 7 horizontal pans and a middle row of 11 vertical pans. 😊

Ooh what a wonderful Roman Szmal Palette! And also an amazing painting! I love your watercolor landscapes! Funny thing: This week I did exactly the same.. 😃 I made a new Roman Szmal palette setup and I also had to think about a solution for a metal palette because the pans didn’t fit in it. I took a piece of cardboard underneath 🙂 I can recommend also the Roman Szmal Phthalo Blue… and recently I got the Turquise Blue which is amazingly deep and beautiful. I won’t make it to share my palette setup this week but it could inspire you for blues.. and your video inspired me for greens.. I always have less greens in my palette. Have a great weekend Miranda! ❤

For a non granulating color try Manganese Blue. It is my go-to color for skies.

Interesting! Many of my Manganese Blues are granulating. I'll have to look at each of them individually. Thanks!

@@MirandaWatsonArt Mine is PB 15 and is from Winsor Newton. It's a 'hue'. Maybe there are others out there with different pigments that are 'real' Manganese Blue. Not so sure. But the W.N one is really great.

Roman Szmal Blue Sky is also a PB15, looks similar to the WN Manganese Blue Hue. I have a Cotman Cerulean Blue Hue which is also PB 15, and it is perfect for skies. So the RS version is worth a try

Hello Miranda, this is Dora. I am finally back on YT and made a new art channel. I see you weren't able to keep up with the buying freeze. I am still on it but have accidently started buying collectibles lol Not helpful at all. It's great to be able to watch your videos again. I had two surgeries this year, with the last one just two weeks ago. You did such a beautiful piece, love the second version of it as well maybe a bit more.

Welcome back! I actually was/am able to keep up with the buying freeze. These paints were bought back in March or April before it started and I'm just now getting to them. I have a lot going on, lol. Hope your recovery goes well. Hugs.

I don’t think I have ever heard anyone ever mention Rockwell paints in a video before. I know that it’s a Canadian company but I have never seen them in a store in my part of Canada. Do you have many colours? I would love to see a video about them if you do. Your painting is beautiful. I agree with your choice to tone down the granulation in the sky. I love the colour ultramarine blue but sometimes the granulating characteristics of it don’t work.

I have a small sample palette of Rockwell watercolors and a tube of the Sky Blue. I'll be trying them out soon, I hope!

I dislike putting other brands into a branded palette. I have put a Schmincke pan into a Rosa Gallery Palette, but I had not other space for it practically. I have drilled out rivets on all kinds of plates and you could get rid of the pan trays on the insert by drilling out the rivets. You can use a pair of shears to cut a piece of tin for the bottom of the palette and use magnets or double-sided tape too! I found your laminated paper trick quite functional, I do not have a laminator, but I do have sheet metal shears! I also have a drill and plenty of bits! Oh, there is no such blue being to dark if you have even seen Scottish skies in the winter! I have seen a few very dark sky's on the Northern California coast! So it is not just Scottish sky's that get that dark n stormy label, they do get more free press though.
@MirandaWatsonArt2 ай бұрын
Yes, the thought of putting another brand into this palette isn't a comfortable one, but it might be a good short-term solution for now. I love Prussian Blue for moody skies, but I'm definitely looking for that bright blue for warm summer days. ☀️

If you are using and swatching a Roman Szmal palette, why is there three websites in your supplies list for Rosa Gallery? I lo e the colors in your palette, whatever company it is, and your paintings came out so beautiful. And the second one really pops.
@MirandaWatsonArt2 ай бұрын
Good question. I linked the Rosa Gallery paints in the description box because I mentioned them 2 or 3 times in the video and also linked to a previous video using them. The ones in this video are definitely the Roman Szmal paints. The Rosa Gallery paints were used to paint the Great Sand Dunes pictures I showed at the end.
