I’ve been watching since you pulled that boat out of the water, and found out the true extent of what you had done. After the shock wore off of what you were looking at, you both committed to each other, and all your followers to complete yaba . The light at the end of this part of the tunnel is bright. Thank you MP and Ben. You too bring perspective to my life every week now I get this perspective every day until she’s wet. Thanks again.

It's getting exciting now!!! I'm sure you've considered it but if you antifouled some time ago, you'll need another coat before you splash as it loses its capability when exposed to air. Been with you since the beginning and excited to see her afloat! good luck Ben and MP!

A great month for the veiwers but a tough one for the crew. Thanks Yabba!!!
@FlyingConey10 ай бұрын
The worm shoe only gives you enough time to haul out if you ever have ground contact. What protects your boat and the sacrificial keel against the toredo worms is the antifouling paint. As long as the paint is intact you don't have problems. What you can do to increase the protective capabilities of the worm shoe is to but a sheet of aluminium or copper above it. Another option is to use a thick steel plate as external ballast keel. If you reduce the internal ballast accordingly you would increase the righting moment and the performance of your boat.
@JHK6610 ай бұрын
"Performance" for this type of construction seems to be the wrong term. How heavy should this steel plank be to makexa difference? Considering the weight above the waterline removing internal ballast just some centimeters above the keel is not worth the trouble. It's a bathtub shape hull with a likely high centre of gravity ... would be interesting to perform a heel test after launch to get an idea about the stability.
@FlyingConey10 ай бұрын
Making the entire sacrificial keel out of steel would add up to about 1000kg. It would be interesting to know how much blast Yaba has and if 1000kg would make a difference. However, bolting heavy steel bars to the keel is a common way to increase the stability of beam trawlers. For our boat we've intended to weigh the internal we remove and to bolt it on in this exact way. I agree with you that a rolling test after launching is a must for Yaba. @@JHK66

You guys are fantastic. This is boat building at the human level. You all put your shoulder to the wheel get dirty/sweatty. It's such a rough place but so evident that you love and respct each other. The iguana loaping toward the wood pile chased by your hounds add to what I described. Can't wait to see you afloat and smiling.

Been watching since day one. I thought you guys were crazy for trying to fix that thing. I even thought you were going to give up on it after I see how bad the hull was. But you proved me and many others wrong, and I have no problem saying I was wrong. The boat is looking amazing. Can’t wait to see the finishing touches to it. I will miss the videos once you are all done!

The worms aren’t the only thing that sacrificial keel can protect against. Someday you will run over a rock, or a wreck, or something else you couldn’t avoid. And the sacrificial keel will do its job of keeping your keel safe, making repairs much faster and cheaper.
