Nice explanation of how to setup and use the Pace Car

Wow, didn’t think I’d need a safety car, but now I’m thinking about it. Great video. And awesome tutorial re SmartRace settings. 😎🏁

Thank you! I like the safety car in concept, but I haven't quite figured out how to actually use it during a race!

Everyone is trying out new ideas etc….which is great as we all can take those ideas and try it and maybe tweak it and so on. I have a double pit lane and now will get another one specifically for the pace car. Here is a scenario that I will try after I get my other pit lane. The pace car will be setup just before the start finish. When a caution comes out you hit the caution button on the smart race app. That immediately freezes the cars and then deploy the pace car from the app and then hit start on the race app as it will avoid the countdown and immediately unfreeze the cars. This makes it possible that a car or cars could get caught a lap down. Not sure if it will work out as well as I’m thinking lol

It is a really great feature to add to the system. Unfortunately, I have not been able to use it in an actual race yet, but one day my group will be able to handle it!

Great video, I really appreciate your simple, straightforward explanations. Now I'm thinking I need to add a safety car. Though as you said in your simple mistakes to avoid, introduce one concept at a time to new racers. The concept of pitting takes new folks a bit to become familiar with.

I really dig the concept of the safety car, but putting it into action has been difficult. I am not giving up on it yet though!

looking forward to join this new hobby, i just need to do some little more research on the different technologies available, so far the Carrera digital 1:32 has been the top one for me

Hello Peter, nice lay-out. If you race the last s-curve above to your right on the inside lane and want to change to the outside with the left curve-ail-change, you may get problems tryin`to switch, if you run it too fast and get into a drift, passing the s-curve. The reason is, that the rail won`t switch if you pass the diode with your car on the rail-track in a drift. The diode underneath the chassis by your car will not pass the track-diode over in a straight line, means both diodes will not be above each other, while passing. So, no function therefore. You should always put atleast one straight track-piece after passing a curve to get the car in a straight position, to switch it with the knob on your controller. Keep that in mind and slow the pace down accuratly, to have a changing function, if you leave it like that. ;-)

I usually do my best to add at the very least a 1/3 straight before a lane change, but I really ran out of space, so I had to stick with it the way it currently is. Fortunately, in order to get through the 2x 1/60 S-Turn you have to slow down significantly anyway, so it has worked out so far. Also, I change the layout pretty frequently these days, and I am just about ready to build a third table which will give me more breathing room for everything. I am traveling off and on for the next few weeks, but I am hoping to have the third table built by the end of September. When I design my next track I will do my best to keep this in mind! Thanks for always watching and dropping in helpful tips! I really appreciate the advice and support!

Bo, I've got a very similar setup to Peter... deliberately so. I leave the magnet in the safety car so it has no trouble entering the pit lane dedicated for it straight off a corner, especially as the safety car won't be running at full race speed. The rest of my cars I run no magnet and my main pitlane has the track piece between the corner and the pit lane changer. This means for me it's nearly impossible to have a non mag race car enter the safety car pit at full speed and rear end the static pace car.
@Show-MeSlotCars Жыл бұрын
That is a pretty smart solution. I still race with magnets, but good to know for the future!

I have 2 pit lanes, but mine have a single lane entrance and then split off into both pit lanes. I have not been able get mine to work properly because the pace car stops at the “Y” and blocks both pit lanes. Ive had to manually pick up the pace car during race so pit lanes are accessible. Still haven’t figured out why it stops there and not fully in the pit lane itself.
@Show-MeSlotCars Жыл бұрын
The way I understand it is that as soon as the car senses that it is in the pit the control unit cuts power to the car. It can sense when it is in the pit due to the isolated section of track that begins at the Y. If you are using SmartRace, you might want to try reducing the braking of your pace car. I am not sure if that will work, but I do know that my pace car drifts further when I have the app in use, and stops on a dime when the iPad is not connected. Either way I do not think that nested pit lanes will work with the pace car. No matter what the pace car will stop as soon as it senses it is in the pit. It will never know to keep going through the second switch.
@TheDeLeonHobbyGarage Жыл бұрын
@@Show-MeSlotCars i think your right about that. It will never work with my configuration. The car is also very slippery. It tends to spin out in my hairpin turn with those hard thin tires or you have to set it soo slow, it gets in the way.
@Show-MeSlotCars Жыл бұрын
@@TheDeLeonHobbyGarage I was really reluctant to add a completely separate pit lane, but every other alternative had bigger compromises than I was willing to accept. I have seen several examples of folks just pulling it off the main pit lane when it isn't in use, so I am sure it is workable, but I totally get what you are saying.
@Show-MeSlotCars Жыл бұрын
@TheDeLeonSlotCarRaceway I was just recently thinking more about this, and I think that if you used the digital chicane as the first pit entrance and then an actual pit entrance just after that then it would probably work. The safety car would go through the chicane like it was a normal lane changer, and it wouldn't think that it was in the pits so it would keep going through the second pit entrance. As long as you used a Pit Lane Adapter unit in the first pit lane then the regular racers would be allowed to pit in either lane.

Another way to do a safety car only pit that is only for pace car is to move the Carrer sensor to the other side of the track and move the car sensor to match up with it. The Glendale 65 guy is where I got the idea from and he has an in depth video.
