I have a Cold Steel Jungle machete and I love the blade but I do not like the handle. I wanted to change it to a layered canvas micarta handle and I figured the process would make an interesting video so, here we go as I show the entire process step by step.

I wasn’t going to watch all of this because I thought it was just put a handle on a machete, but when I started I realized that this video presents your ingenuity, creativity, welding, and mechanical and machining skills and I was spellbound. Yes, this is exactly what you pay for when you buy custom made knives. That is one machete you can be very proud of! Well done!

As usual, a master at work. A lot of times I always take knives when I buy them and put new handles on them. The easiest cheap way to go out in the backyard and grab a piece of oak and make a handle out of it. But anyway, yeah, the Palm swells are never on there and they don't ever fit your hand since it's my knife. I put a handle on it that fits my hand. Thanks for the video and your time

I am so happy for you that you finally fixed that machete, Dave! Hey, I'll tell you what is really addictive is making your own micarta! I started out making felt micarta with some different color schemes with felt from Amazon and bonding it together with 2 part epoxy and some homemade clamps, but then began making it with different materials like blue jeans, canvas, paper, basically anything I could find. It really keeps the cost down making it yourself. I even bought some faux antler knife scales and made an epoxy mold with them so I can make as many antler knife scales as I want. It's pretty awesome to be able to fit (or refit, as in your case) the scales you want without breaking the bank. Good luck to you always in your endeavours, and thanks for taking us all on the trips with you! Rock on, Dave!

Great job Dave. My first Micarta handle was amazing too. The one thing I did to finish the handle is, I rubbed in superglue all over for a finish. It sealed up the fibers from dirt and oils you get from using the knife. It dries fast so it can be used right away.

Wow! That's quite a project. Well done, good Sir. I'm looking forward to seeing you use it in the field. I was wondering if you ever use your home-made sleeping pad? I'm still trying to find that foam to make my own. Thanks for the video. I wish you and Nick a great weekend.

3:36 "...enough jibber jabber...". Mr. T would be proud. The new handle looks great. Transforms that machete from something of a 'beater' blade to a semi-custom heirloom. Nice! Maybe one if these days that will be your 'retirement gig' - not knife making but customizing existing, production knives into something that is exactly what your customers want.
