Lot of people do not know that when your might be on a forced march and your moving for 48 hrs to vacate and area having a set up as light as possible like this/these possible set ups for the types and conditions/area(s) /season(s) you are aware of or, when you can get some distance, is a well worth the carry. You have to understand your not playing camper/boy scouts nor are you packed to be comfortable, you are packed for survival. There maybe times you might not be able for a week or a week and a half till you can crawl into something like this and at that time be very thankful for the amount limited as it may seem, be in the luxury for relief and comfort... Fine example, give your self options...this set does ...

Great video! That M55 haversack is a copy of the Army M3 medical bag. It is amazing how much you can fit in one of these. I build a tactical trauma kit based on the M3 fully loaded with 340 items including tactical tourniquet, chest seals, Israeli pressure dressing, hemostatic powder, splints, cohesive wrap, elastic bandages, plus lots of bandages, gauze, burn cream, etc. I do like the 4 pockets on the M3 better than the 3 on the M55 though. Ever thought of trying to build a survival kit in an M17 medical bag? It is 13 x 13 x 10 inches. I'm pondering building a tactical belt modular MOLLE survival kit. So many options for building very flexible kits, easily tailored to changing plans and events.

I have just found your Channel recently, while flipping through KZbin camping video stuff, and I think your videos are both great and informative. I am watching your "backyard breakfast, red corn polenta and goodbye 2023" video now. I couldn't help but notice the entertaining egg frying effort from the chef. I might only add that when using your cast iron skillet, while frying both sausage and eggs, using more oil will have helped with both. Even more so when frying up breakfast with bacon, as you can save the left over bacon grease for many other future uses. Bacon grease is just a good additive with any cooking that requires a bit more flavor and even works well with stuff like Pan Fried Ramen noodles or spreading on a biscuit. I have really used left over bacon grease in all of my campfire meals. "Even the freeze dried bagged up ones" it sure does add something tasty to some of those cheaper often more bland meals. Just a thought... 😊 hope you put on another video showing how to take campfire cooking to another level, using leftover bacon grease. Is it healthy? Who cares, it sure does taste good tho, just sayin.

I have a question about a hatchet. I have a small hatchet I found in an old chicken barn 12 years ago and it was old when I found it. It is 14 inches long and weighs 1 pound 6.5 ounces. The handle has 2 distinct curves and is very comfortable held close to blade or far away. I was thinking more of a bush craft tool with fine wood work or splitting small wood for fires. What would be a good angle for sharpening blade ? I was also thinking of something of a micro bevel. There are no markings of any kind but it does have a nail puller on the blade side. The head is 4 1/2 inches long, 7/8 inch thick on the hammer side and the cutting edge is 3 inches long. It has a modest curve to the cutting edge.
@Reallybigmonkey12 күн бұрын
I'd make the grind at 10 to 15 degrees per side. Make the micro bevel right between 18 to 20 degrees per side. Do not super polish that micro bevel like you would a knife. A hatchet is a chopping tool so I'd make that micro bevel with 220 grit sandpaper. With that nail pulling slot it's could be a Plumb hatchet

I have a huge collection of survival knives, and I used to think Bear Grylls and Survivorman were right, until I had hands on experience. Now if I took one it would be one that chops too, so is a bit heavier. Also the sheath is mega important, I try to get high quality and on mine I try to have a pouch holding a whistle and fire starter at very least. I very highly recommend the ""British Army MOD Issue Survival Knife Sheath Holder Molle Military MTP" in which I was able to store many items, front and back, and it is very well made indeed. It also allows you to molle a small or large pouch to it. Wow!

I think that is often overlooked and as a result the consequences are often really bad. You have inspired me to make stuff. I took a piece of blue exercise matt and cut it in a modified horse shoe shap then put 2 pieces of sunbarella over it. I sewed that to a shirt. Good info. You reminded me that I need to inform myself about these electrolytes. I had bullion cubes in my kit but I recently threw them away when I read the ingredients. Salt and MSG were the main ingredients. So now I'm going to try and find bullion cubes without MSG. I have the same bag made by condor but it's called a medical bag that I bought years ago. I disagree with the flare for Bear protection because Smokey the Bear carries a fire extinguisher. I ducked when you aimed the rubber band at the screen. I saw a video once of how they make rubber bands and elastics. It's a complicated process. That's a really cool trick in case you have a busted leg. First time I've seen that .
