I’d love to see a video on boiler repair. I’ve had mine welded, used leak additive, and resorted to JB weld. I know I’ll have to buy new at some point, but I’m trying to string it along

I run my radiant floor off my wood boiler and I’m having problems with major heat loss when the floor calls for heat. Should I have a mixing valve anywhere on my system? My boiler is set at 185 deg running thru a plate HX. I have 140 deg water in and 80 going out on the manifold side.

Great video. I was wondering if you could put together a video on mixing valve setup for lowering boiler return water(not domestic) to get it down under 100F for hydronic concrete floor heat. I use the hotter (180F) boiler water with my Dragon PE 20 plate exchanger to heat domestic water but I’d like to utilize the return water for floor heat. I’ve heard that anything over 100F can be bad for concrete. Thanks

Mixing valve is good idea and I will be calling to get one for my system. I would advise your staff suggest this when we order a plate exchanger for our home hot water. My next question is one that I am going to call on tomorrow but a video would be great. I have a sealed system for my floor heat. I purchased a plate exchanger for that system. How do I hook into the sealed system. I was told that I should only heat my concrete to less than 120 degrees. Would it be as simple as using one of these mixing valves to keep the water at the 120 degree range going into the existing electric boiler on the sealed system? I would like to use the electric side if the water is not hot enough or if I have issues with the wood boiler? Thank you so much for the help.

Using a domestic water tank to buffer the water for radiant is a great idea. I have had good success with it myself. Jeff

Great video, as always. Does the pressure created by the plate exchanger require any special considerations, such as a way to prevent too much pressure build up?

No, I have not seen that to be the problem. Great question... Jeff

You mentioned that you prefer the plate exchanger because of the ease of installation with many tanks not having the side ports. Don't you find that with hard water etc. that the longevity of the plate exchanger is much shorter than the side arm because of plugging issues within the plates over time? Thanks

My plate exchangers I make "Dragon PE" the plates are spaced wider to prevent that give them much longer life. Your right that most plate exchangers on the market have their plates are very close together and only last 7 to 10 years. You pay for what you get. Jeff

should the water in a wood boiler be flushed out after the heating season to remove some of the sediment ?

Absolutely, I don't do it after the heating season, I leave it to the fall and then do it. I do every other year and do a flush with CF205 and white vinegar. Jeff

Do I need two plate heat exchangers one for domestic hot water and one for under floor heat in the same house or can it be done with one plate exchanger?

Yes you do... Your heating two different systems and the water is different.
