Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating Not Working - Bad Thermostatic Mixing Valve Replaced & Valves Added

On this service call we repaired 3 bathroom in-floor radiant heat that wasn't working. We found a defective thermostatic mixing valve on the boiler and the original installers got real lucky when they didn't install isolation valves - which we added. Quickly confirmed the floor is not heating with the Flir i7 thermal camera.

the other issue is, there should be a pump on the outlet of thermostatic mixing valve, just to pump the radiant loop. without a pump post mixing valve, just for the loop/s, as the mixer valve adjusts to use more cool "return" water, the flow will drop off in proportion, to the point of little to no loop flow at all.

Just got off a white plastic and foam coated roof, those things reflect heat like crazy, got me to thinking, I need to come up there and work summers and migrate back down here or Arizona for winters... I thought I was going to stroke out being on that roof today! Mikey Pipes! it was reflecting back 152 deg heat according to my 12:1 name brand temp gun and 112 deg in the shade by the ladder, but the weather said it was only 96 but feels like 106, maybe they turned on 5G, who knows, I know it was just HOT! Mike, can’t install radiant close to a toilet. Wax seal will melt. Also can’t run it under cabinets. We fail inspections here if to close

exactly, there's no need to have a heated toilet, the floor will be plenty warm in front of it and some radiate towards it. use rugs and bath mats, like the rest of us po-folk lol ;)

In B.C. we are required to be 1 foot away from the toilet so wax seal don’t melt but I do agree with Mikey to put piping under the shower/tub so you are not stepping into an ice cold place to have a bath.

If you dont have a FLIR, an inexpensive laser thermometer will be a substitute. Certainly not a FLIR but will help in a pinch.

That hack contractor who could not be bothered to lay out the underfloor loops correctly had clearly not heard of using a pair of supply and return manifolds for the underfloor heating distribution. Total hack job.

I used to deal with those rings alot with syrup lines for soda fountains. You can use side cutters to break the crimp ring usually in 1 good twist. Not sure how stiff that pex is, soda lines were a forgiving plastic. Just an idea for next time

You forgot to tell danielson youcan also crimp uponor PEX-a, we had a job likr 2 weeks agowhere we had to connect to the QUEST shit pipe with some sort of barb adapter and that was when i found out it could also crimped lol.

uponor/wirsbo has had more than one class action lawsuit, for issue with their brass(older high zinc content) fittings corroding up inside and out restricting flow, also the red/blue color tubing, which was only an outside layer that the application of cause breakdown and cracking of the tubing(end result leaks). it's a perfect rose garden with pex A, B or C. I'm just waiting for major fallout and bad things, perhaps something like odd water chemistry causing breakdown and toxins to be released. same as lead was deemed safe at one point ;)
