How well has the polyurethane held up? I am about to do this.

hey . you said when the dust comes the only soloy=tion is either you sand it off or buff it , my confusion is if there is dust you have to sand it and with the proper completion of sanding process you can start buffing , i am confuse what does it mean to buff it off directly..?
@kenscustomdesigns2723 Жыл бұрын
It must be sanded up to at least a 1200 grit finish then buffed with heavy and medium cut and finally a swirl remover or fine polish. I'd say preferably between 1200-1400 rpm

Just did an epoxy floor over wood would regular polyurathane from home depot be ok to coat floor & counters?
@kenscustomdesigns2723 Жыл бұрын
No it will produce an Amber tint. Perhaps polycrylic

Would regular water based polyurathane work??
@kenscustomdesigns2723 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure about that one. I'd say yes but I use one with a hardener formulated for concrete. I would assume as long as the epoxy has been sanded and clean it will work

Would this be a way to reduce the finish from the high gloss of the epoxy to whatever the applied topcoat is (satin, etc) ?

Yes

Hi does this product have a strong odor
@caseyjohnson65732 жыл бұрын
Is it urethane or poly? Heard straight urethane has no self leveling and will leave an orange peel look not texture which takes away from the characteristics of epoxy being like a sheet of glass
@kenscustomdesigns2723 Жыл бұрын
It does do that. But it does protect from scratches. I prefer no topcoat and wax with good carnuba wax. Just depends on what the customer wants

Nice counter top. So you put urethane over epoxy because it is a better coating however it is not design or custom friendly (colors, patterns, etc) as urethane? Have you tried Omega brand of urethane from CCI?

why a two part polyurethane ? Will like Mini Wax polyurethane work like you get a lowes ?
@kenscustomdesigns27234 жыл бұрын
No I would not try minwax. The two part poly is more scratch resistant and stain resistant. It is a much higher end product

can you see any roller marks. i had someone do this and i see all the roller marks

They probably over-brushed. You could sand the surface, clean and wipe it down, then add a new coat of water based poly on top. You have to work quickly and try not to do too many brush strokes. It dries fast but it’s self leveling, so if you don’t play with it too much, the paint strokes should disappear as it dries. I am doing this today and was able to get clear coat poly at my hardware store for just $15, you can totally do it by yourself (or contact the worker and ask them to fix the final coat if you paid em good, I hate brush strokes!)

No

Is this an epoxy countertop? If so what epoxy did you use? Did you do a color coat and a top coat of epoxy ? Or did you do a color coat and just the urethane top coat ? Your work is beautiful!!! I wish you had more technique videos ..
@kenscustomdesigns27235 жыл бұрын
@@patlockshaw5325 thanks. What I did here is a concrete overlay over formica, white masonry primer then, a metallic epoxy coat. Then sanded and poly coat
@paulweston81843 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it looks better than it did before, but fixing a high gloss epoxy countertop by adding poly will come out either wavy or when used with a roller satin. A satin finish look with poly is not really what the customer wants.. Poly will not hold up to the abuse a kitchen counter top takes. Soapy water, food debris, cranberry sauce, hot oil, nicks and dings from utensils, scolding hot pans, metal cookie racks, pots, bread knives, chef knives are not good for polyurethane. I don't think I've ever seen a clear satin finish on a countertop. It's got to be glossy to get that clean mirror shine look.

Why bother with a sealer??? Apoxy is better then polyurethane. Bars just use clear apoxy? Why take this extra step?
