Adding a Wind Block to Keep Warm

We usually use exterior screens to block sun or insects. In this case, our customer wanted to use tight screens to significantly restrict air flow, allowing the heaters under the porch to function better. MotionScreens from Universal Screens can withstand moderate winds when used with the zipper tracks enclosing all sides of a porch. The Suntex 97 fabric from Phifer blocks a pretty significant amount of air flow. Somfy motors power the shades, making operation simple. And the new Carbon fabric color is pretty sweet!

How does this go with the rain? Decent blockage?

They are intended to block sun and insects. That being said, the fabric, housing, and motors are rated for exterior use. The fabric can be hosed off. We don't recommend hosing off the hood because of potential water intrusion into the motor. If you use a tighter weave, it can shield you from rain. It will also handle moderate wind.

Monsoon, no. It'll handle 45 to 50 mph realistically.
