I installed mine a fortnight ago. Now I just hope they come out with a suitable case to cope with the extra height.

Thank you. I tested 4 different Pi 5 NVMe boards. I like Pimoroni's best because it can come bundled with compatible NVMe drive so makes it hussle free for the Pi 5 users. Pimoroni does 1 better by documenting what NVMe drive its board is compatible with.

Yeah, Pimoroni tend to be pretty decent with documentation/support, and it's nice they offer drives to go with it. They're also UK based, which for me is a plus.

Nice video. I copied the software using the Raspberry Pi OS, sd card copier and all my settings were transferred to the nvme drive, so I didn't need to set up the new drive.

That's another option, just need to make sure the OS is up to date before copying :)

So "card copying" my current 64gb MicroSD over to a new 128gb SSD and then afterwards resizing the SSD image to full 128gb with "gparted" would work, right?

@@davidtstewart I didn't need to resize it was done by the copier.

I love the Pimoroni boards...but the cable being routed over the board and not through the board is an issue. I just bought the Pimoroni dual NVMe hat for the Pi5 and the fit in the case is suck that I had to file away a tiny bit of the hat to keep pressure off of the cable. After close visual inspection I noticed that my hat is just ever so slightly longer than the Pi5, which is actually the reason for the tension on the cable in the case. Very disappointing for such a good board, otherwise. I have another dual hat from another manufacturer and that cable is routed through a slot in the board, better design.

Yeah, I've seen a few other boards (Geekworm have quite a few variants) which look interesting, I like that this one sits under the Pi to keep the top open for cooling, but I'm not a huge fan of the cable design. Being exposed on the edge of the board is definitely a weak point of the design.

Hi, I managed to install a Pimoroni on my Pi 5. I have installed windows 11 onto the SSD and used custom UEFI installed onto the SD card. When my Pi starts and loads the UEFI boot menu my NVME drive is not detected. Is there another way to enable NVME drive on that menu? Thanks

Which uefi you have used ?

Hi, sorry I have only just seen this comment. I'm not sure about using UEFI with the Pi, I'd be interested to hear about your setup as it's something I'd be willing to have a play with myself. I wasn't aware that UEFI was usable with the Pi.

THE usual tinkering was required to get my Raspberry Pi and the NVMe drive to work together. Basically I did something. I changed something. I repeated something and I restarted something and well in the end something I did got it working...something....the next time it'll more than likely be something else or something different. Just saying.....it's worth trying.......something!!!

can we use a cooler based nvme M.2 drive to it with Rasberry Pi 5 8 gb.
@qubitstech
@qubitstech 7 ай бұрын
Probably not with this board, there's very little room between the bottom of the Pi and the drive. The short cable means you can't add larger standoffs either.

Maybe the drive isn't compatible, which drive are you using? A few drives are known to be incompatible with this base (and probably the Pi in general)

@@qubitstech If you are interestet the base works, the problem was that the controller on my partiot nvme did not talk with the raspberry 5.

@MatzWerk Thanks for following up. It looks like there's quite a few drives now on Pimoroni's list which have issues with this base, including the 2230 version of the Kioxia drive I'm using. Surprised there are so many issues, I wonder if the other NVMe boards available are the same.
