A really good video that explains clearly the method to fill AND what happens when a cylinder is stuck and how to fix it! Thanks!

I had another Jack it took me a year to figure out the cylinder was stuck. Sometimes it’s simple things that break, the hard thing is knowing where to look👍

Excellent video. I was messing with my Pittsburgh 1.5ton (at least 15 years old) trying to fill it up and making a mess all over. After watching your vid I saw that my valve was also stuck. I used some penetrating oil and a pry bar and loosened it up. Then I was able to fill it, bleed it and get it back to normal operation. All is good. Thanks for the tips.

So you want the system filled to the tippy top, it sounds like right? I bought a brand new duralast 2 ton jack. Left it in my trunk, never used/touched, for about 3 years. And when I went to use it, it was bone dry because it was doing nothing. And it was fully sealed, at least no evidence of leaks in the box or residue on the jack. And it was supposed to be ready to go, not "oil sold separately" or something. So I thought the O rings dried out or something. But checked the plunger O ring and it was fine. Decided to open the fill plug, and it was dry. Even when pumping no flow. And as soon as I added even the smallest amount of oil, it started pumping and actually lifting the arm. So I guess this stuff can evaporate and leave the system as a gas in high heat over time? I didn't think oil would do that, but in the desert and 10 months of summer per year, I shouldn't be too surprised.

I used to have the same Pittsburgh 2 ton long reach....loved that thing. Someone decided they needed it more than I did 😞. Lmk if you ever decide to get rid of that one I'll take it off your hands

Does that screw or bolt that sits on top serve any purpose.

Same idea with a bottle jack? I somehow introduced air into my largest bottle jack. Now, when you release the pressure on the jack it goes down..but then pops right back up just a little bit at the end of the stroke decompression.

I’ve never have added fluted to the bottle jack, I would have to think that it’s very similar because a floor jack looks like a bottle jack on the side. A couple of years ago I had a floor jack go bad and I thought with it a couple of weeks and I couldn’t get it it was a craftsman floor jack I never got it fixed a friend brought the exact one over with the exact same problem and I thought with it. Those two big heavy floor jacks are still in the scrapyard. They still have me stumped. I want to pull those back out of the scrap yard just to give it another try. It’s a machine it’s gotta give up. I’d have to do some research, that’s so odd that it comes back up at the end.👍👍

I see you have a screw for the port. Mine has a rugger plug that is impossible to put back in once taken out. I tapped for a bolt but the curvature of the cylinder leaks past the bolt when pumping. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix this? I've tried a couple of different washers and O rings to no avail. I hope someone can help. Thanks, Mark

I don't know if your rubber stopper would still work but I just serviced mine which has one and I ended up having to use a small bit of rod and push right on the middle of it to get it to re seat without splaying out weird

Mine has a rubber plug as well. I just pushed around the bottom edge with a flathead screwdriver while pushing down on the plug and it popped back in.

After I put mine back on, when I started pumping it, it popped right off
