on stabilty, yes the seat height makes huge difference. I was feeling my S-18 was tippy and lowered the seat to the absolute bottom of the boat and it made a great improvement in stability.

How to gain mechanical leverage: build a wide shaped 1/2" ply wood "H" with one of the sides about 3 inches and the other a bit larger. Insert the narrow part between the stringer and the new added piece, grab the "head" of the H and rotate, and this will give you mechanical advantage to push the new stringer upwards against the gunnel.
