Nice to know about the synthetic foot braces ... but for me it's the aluminum Yakima's all the way ... they're heavy, hard to adjust when clogged with sand and have a small perpendicular toe plate, expensive ... but in 20+ years I've never had 'em slip or break.

This is incredibly depressing. I've been a sea kayaker for almost 20 years. The circulation in my feet is a bit of an issue, so I'm a bit more critical about this. I also have an actual kayak stroke - where power is transferred to the kayak through my feet. All of these units in your video are just awful. They will cut off circulation, make your feet numb, and if you paddle hard they'll snap off in less than two years. What they are good for is to support an actual foot brace that goes all the way across and covers your whole foot. I had to DIY, four times for four kayaks. I pad mine with 1/2" Yoga mat. If you need to control a rudder, some kind of hinges, and use your toes. That's a complication. Apparently no one makes this. After so many years, just insane. (If anyone has any questions leave me a comment. ) And using any of these to attach a footbrace works great. They make it adjstable, and because the force of each foot is support on both sides they'll last indefinitely. I usually attach my braces with just a self drilling screw through the plastic.

No argument here that nothing is better than a permanently installed and properly shaped footboard. That’s pretty common in performance kayaking. This is just a review of what you can actually buy. The sea lect pads and tracks are the most robust of the bunch. Extremely strong and good surface area.
