@@thedancedojo: De nada, Robin. :) The main difference is that this channel uses an intelligent approach to dancing, by adding simple moves at a time, instead of teaching long sequences. I've been asking this from my teachers, to no avail. They actually think teaching sequences is a good idea. I hate to dance sequences in social dancing, it bores me to death.

The technique you took from the Triple Trouble combo in which you toss your partners hand blindly into the hammer position, so to speak, RAAAAARELY would work on a social floor. Great combo starter, but good luck finding a follower apt enough to follow that impulse with your back turned to him/her. You guys are doing a great job! Keep it coming! 🏆
@thedancedojo
@thedancedojo 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, you're totally right that some things work much less often. It all depends on the follow's experience and I'd try a simpler hand toss before i tried one during a cross body lead. The cool part about salsa is it's all about reading the level/style/abilities of the follow and finding a way to make something work - and the way you make it work will be a little different for each partner. Such an art, and a cool challenge. Appreciate the encouragement and you bet there's more to come! -Robin

I love "salsa" and I love dancing "salsa" whether it be son, mambo, cha cha cha, guajira, pachanga, guaracha, guaguancó, casino, yambú, columbia, or whatever else there is that has been covered up by this horrible term "salsa". Of course, back in the day, the Cubans would also cover them up by using the term "rumba". So I'm old school, having been dancing "salsa" since the 1980's in NYC when, and where, I learned it from the very best. We were so lucky back then, because dancing "salsa" meant dancing in front of Tito Puente, Ray Barretto, Johnny Pacheco, Eddie Palmieri, El Gran Combo, La Sonora Ponceña, etc, etc, etc, in the very best clubs of New York, and not dancing to a DJ, in a social, in a dance studio, like they (we) do today. We were so lucky back then, and I feel for the new generation of dancers who will never know what that was like. And back then dancing "salsa" meant turn patterns too, but mostly, especially for the best dancers, it meant footwork and body movement, while you were dancing with a partner. The footwork and body movement were what made the people watching you go "Wow!"; not the turn patterns, and certainly not the arms. But unfortunately, with so many "salsa" schools out there now, and so many wanting to turn their talent, be it large or small, into a source of income, a commodity, to be bought and sold on the "market", and when arms and turn patterns are the bread and butter of their "salsa" businesses, the "salsa" dance scene has been transformed entirely. And I'm not so sure that it's been for the better. But I'm a nobody, so who cares? In any case, when you can put this into your "salsa" you can say you've got it made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKTXqmeOZ6efp8U

Always great to hear your voice here William. I've been noticing a general resurgence or growing interest in adding body movement back into the mix, especially afro-inspired movements. It's great to see and I hope things can shift back to not being completely move/turn pattern focused. The richness is in the body movement and musicality like you said. Hey Isaac, those are Mercury 2.0 LIteknit by Native Shoes. They're super light, not too grippy for dancing. You can dress em up or down. They're my go-to shoe. I wear them a lot in colombia because it's hot. They breathe well and they're great if you wanna get your feet wet. They dry fast and have antibacterial insoles so they don't stick if you're barefoot. Do casual hikes in them too. They're surprisingly durable and have never broke on me.

Cuál quier cosa puedes preguntar a yoyo o a adonys Santiago, o a magna gopal. Busqueme en face , ese es mi cuenta.

Love your breakdown but shit this move is advanced and to lead it on the dance floor would be very challenging

Hey Jake, which move out of the two are you referring to? The first (bouncy hands) is actually easier than you might think once you're comfortable with it (the follow needs relaxed arms with elbows down). For the double check move the follow definitely needs a little more experience/technique to be able to react to the pressure you give her during those direction changes. It's a tough one as a follow. Sometimes they'll react to one and then not the second, but it's a great exercise to practice those checks with a partner to help her calibrate her ability to listen and react. Appreciate you watching man. -Robin

Dance Dojo that bouncy hands is led facing away- a degree of challenge the hands are led the first move almost blind she can’t see him she turn and has to follow his hands as he crosses across the slot to the other side- this is an advanced moved

@@jakemf1 You're totally right Jake, that first move where Patrick faces away from Scarlet to start the cross body lead and initiate the inside turn is advanced and that's why I didn't include it in the move I chose to add into my social dancing. That said, if the follow's technique is sound she should follow her frame. It doesn't matter where the lead is facing, if his arms direct her frame in a certain direction (initiating an inside turn, for example) her job is to follow it. Of course, this takes calibration and practice. As humans, we rely so much on vision to guide us and that's why it's so important to first learn the foundation of a move (and how it's lead/followed via the frame) because although the variation may look different (and feel slightly different) the foundation of how the follow's frame is affected is going to remain, which the follow must recognize. -Robin

jakemf1 The first move (if you do the version that Robin shows not the Patrick version) is actually not that tough for follower as lead is mostly in control. The move is mostly an illusion arm play with the arms going up and down with just one turn for guy plus a half pivot. Honestly the only hard part (and a very important part) is making sure you don’t elbow the follower in the head haha.
