When I realized that every limb participates in every animation, it dawned on me how out of my depth I am to "add graphics to roguelikes." Because I don't even have a process yet to streamline, I can't brute-force it. Upon realizing that it would be simpler to do it Morrowind style in 3D, I now have to learn some fundamentals about 3D. The quote I find that sums it up best is from The Matrix; "The image translators work for the construct program, but there's way too much information to decode the Matrix."

It is a huge pain working with sprites, that's why I started making the models efficient on triangles, just in case I ever reach my breaking point.

Just binged watched the whole devlog. Awesome project! If you're working on the UI, I think it would make sense to put the action bar above or below the player, and when you're in bed or the jail, make it map above said object. It helps keep your eyes on the character while completing an action! 😅

As someone who actually done rendered spritesheet animation workflows back in 2011, I absolutely understand the pain. After that experience, I would not attempt this even if i wanted to do this style. I would do it via render to texture with a pixelart-style shader in real time in Unity. No animation sheets.

Oh man, those goblins are uuuugly I love them! I don't know what's your aim here with the lore and such but having just 2 races could be enough for making lots of compelling stories, kinda like the first Warcraft (literally "orcs & humans"). And would also save you the 8000 hours of work of making many other races just for the sake of diversity. Though a female race could also be cool, at least for the humans (the goblinettes could be just clones of the males). Otherwise your human towns would look like a 4chan meeting

Diversity is cool in a simulated environment though, emergent gameplay gets interesting when there's many different things behaving in their own way, seeing how they handle interspecies interactions with their different behaviors and what not.

I have no idea why don't you just import a low polly 3d model and add a shader layer that pixelates it instead of doing the millions of individual sprites. You already have 3d models AND animations in the first place anyway since you use them to create sprites. The added benefits would be the possibility of raggdolls besides the less obtuse workload

The perspective projection of your sprites look a bit off compared to the other rendered object in the game. These types of games usually use orthographic projection where everything looks the same under one angle and different camera distance. If you don't want to switch your game world from what you have now to orthographic you can use more orthographic camera settings when creating your sprites, or when drawing sprite quads you need to adjust their perspective (something like billboarding technique). But honestly, the process that you described for generating sprites looks so over-complicated, I believe there are easier and more convenient methods to achieve the similar looks without using sprites and just using a different rendering techniques (like rendering a real model on-demand to a lover resolution image and then composing it to your world, and using the same animation keys to make it look choppy and sprite-animation-like), this would save you a lot of pain when you will start adding more variety and combinations. But you do what you want and good luck!

I saw one of your previous videos and I'm glad to see that now there's more diversity added into the game with a new race but it would be nice if you can make your character and have some customization options and some racial perks like human:bartering, swords,heavy armor goblin:daggers, thieving, light armor Maybe it would be a good idea to add mixed breeds into the game like in real life people have children with people outside their race but in video games we don't really see much of that and it would be interesting to see how a half goblin would look like heck who knows maybe the offspring could be how orcs were created in your game and have some lore to it like a civil war between humans and goblins and the offspring of the 2 races happened after goblins raided villages and kidnapped human woman in a attempt to improve their race with human genetics
