It is awesome that you are supporting "Folds of Honor." As a retired Navy vet, I remember a time in the 70s when the Navy suspended the requirement to travel in uniform because of the vitriol directed to service members in airports and other travel venues. I watched a so called master carpenter build a small building. The floor was like a trampoline when you walked across it. This deck will last a very long time.

I love seeing the rain! (There's no rain out here in S.D. - very hot and dry). Your deck looks marvelous! Plus now you have more scraps for the wood-burning stove - I used my stove for an entire season using the scraps from my little green-oak cabin in Virginia.

Pressure treated wood is not safe to burn indoors or even outdoor due to the chemicals used to treat the wood.

It's never fun when you're working outside and it starts raining, but when it's done it will be fun to run up and down the stairs, and thank you for all the smiles and all the laughs 30 years ago I was in trade school and I design my first house, A-frame home Cottage it's amazing to see how close to my blueprints that you belt your home. Wide stairs and steps make the entrance grand and homecoming. A nice place to hang out, to put on shoes etc . Provided there's a porch roof to protect from elements. From experience, it is nice to have wide stairs and steps.

The fact that every single part of this house build is taking longer than expected is absolutely normal. This is why it must be taken into acount when foreseeing it. Just add about one quarter - or even a third - more than what you expect, then there will be no surprise.

Awesome work as always. I was however wondering, have you never thought about buying a party tent of say 10 by 20 feet and use that as your spot to saw/drill etc? With all the rain interruptions, you could at least keep on working partially and you wouldn't have to scramble to keep the tools dry all the time. Just a thought I had.

Deck looks awesome. For the stair hangers I use the pneumatic palm nailer from porter cable. Incredible game changer when installing ties and stair hangers.

Having a bit of fall in the stair tread is not really noticeable when walking the stairs, but will help water drain off the treads. That’s good for rain and melting snow and ice! I’m afraid your blocking at the base of the stairs is going to trap moisture and lead to early rot of the blocking and deck boards. I would suggest to put a deck board spacer in between that is not fastened and pull it out after fastening the blocking in just above the deck. Also put a bit of tilt on it too.

I hate to sound shady but I think Josh is obsessed with perfection and being perfectly square. I believe that blocking is to satisfy the perfectionist in him. Agree that without adequate airflow rot will take out the deck far quicker than being out of square.

Put a gate on the sides so you can just use a big scoop in the winter to just push off the snow in the winter,alot easier on the back,no lifting.especially down the road when you're older,that's what I did for my deck.

You guys enlighten me and my wife with the sheer passion towards building the house inch by inch yourself although there are other KZbin channels who have been working on similar projects but end up taking help for roofing or plumbing etc. U guys have done a tremendous job in the recent years and I'm delighted to see what's coming next. You guys are the reason why we both decided to try and diy most of our construction. However we live in the other side of the world and there's too many challenges which we unfortunately can't get a hold off. God bless your beautiful family and give you guys good health... :-)
