The custom missiles mod allows you to make flared using red eyeball blocks. You can drop some of them as you drop the flares u used in this video, so you can make it somewhat work

I don't really remember what it's name is, but seeing the orange flares slowly float downwards reminded me of something. I think it's considered illegal or a war crime but it's essentially a bunch of small bits of burning magnesium or whatever, dropped from planes over large areas to burn enemies.
