Mario del Monaco, el mejor tenor de la historia. Una voz marvillosa. La potencia de su voz, es incompoarable. Hay muchos tenores muy buenos con una extraordinaria musicalidad, pero la voz de Del Monaco es extraordinria.

Marvelous! Del Monaco is fantastic! Eleanor Steber was very underrated. The plot may be trite but the music and orchestration is marvelous! BTW, Eleanor Steber's brother, Bill, was a colleague and friend.

17 bars that are usually cut because of its difficulty. I still have not heard it in any other performance or recordings.

@@spn1007 Yes those bars are usually cut. Carol Neblett and Vasile Moldoveanu sang them in the Petrika Ionescu production at the opera in Nice in 1988. The conductor was a very elderly Maestro Alberto Erede I seem to remember. Steber and Neblett two great interpreters of the role of Minnie. Del Monaco such a great partner for Steber in this .

Considerando che è una registrazione dal vivo non si può non affermare che siano i migliori al mondo... anche perché non credo che potremmo mai riascoltare dal vivo voci così purtroppo

Certamente come scrivevo prima, qui siamo al TOP per voce e recitazione, ma a mio avviso è sempre azzardato dire questo o quella sono i migliori al mondo, perché ascoltando altri nello stesso ruolo viene da dire la stessa cosa,: qui non ce n'è per nessuno.... CORELLI/FRAZZONI.... TUCKER...MERLI... LABO'... PREVEDI... CECCHELE...BONISOLLI... BARIONI/TEBALDI... e per ultimo in ordine di tempo GIACOMINI ecc... Le posso dire che nel mio archivio ho esattamente la versione in cd. 1954 Firenze della Fanciulla in questione, e altre con BARIONI/TEBALDI... LABO'/STAPP.. sono da meno?? Ardua sentenza. La posso assicurare che il più grande "OTELLO" sia M. D. MONACO su questo non c'è dubbio, su altri ruoli quelli elencati prima erano almeno alla pari aggiungendo PERTILE e il papà di tutti i tenori B. GIGLI questo è il mio modesto pensiero. Le posso dire che c'è da inchinarsi davanti a tanta bellezza artistica che oggi non la troveremo più purtroppo. È cambiato il clima del pianeta, e sono cambiate anche le voci che non riescono a trasmettere emozioni.. Senza arroganza le ho trasmesso il mio pensiero. Con simpatia e cordialità la saluto. @@luigimaffei9132 Comprendo il suo punto di vista e lo condivido... ogni volta che ascolti questi "mostri sacri" del passato (purtroppo 🥲) rimani sempre senza fiato e credi sempre che l'ultima che hai ascoltato sia la migliore esecuzione al mondo... lo direi anche dopo aver ascoltato altri tenori e soprani altrettanto eccezionali... Ma devo fare un encomio a questa edizione della Fanciulla... a parte le voci straordinarie, credo che la direzione di Mitropolus abbia un'intensità unica che rende quest'opera emozione pura dalla prima all'ultima nota🥰

Probably only listened to Un Bel Di too ! All composers use similiar chord lines and styes ,motifs, this opera is more verisimo.

Only Dorothy Kirsten and this. Two unusually steady lyric sopranos who could sing this dramatic role. Did Steber sing more than one production? It was too much for the lyric Leontyne Price and the spinto Antoinetta Stella withdraw quickly from it.

Eleanor Steber sang Minnie again in 1956 with both Mitropoulos and Del Monaco, in Chicago.

She also sang it out west (Red Rock CO, IIRC) in English. And later she was called on short notice to step in at the Met for just one performance (where she was hard put to banish the English from her "muscle memory") and where she was raucously welcomed by the audience, according to her autobiography.

@@judithwalker9694 Yes , once again Steber came to the rescue of The Met when lovely Dorothy Kirsten fell ill. It is such a shame that the Met didn't give her some performances of the role or a production when her voice was in its prime, just after this production in Firenze for example. How normal it would have been to celebrate this great singer's achievement in the house that was her artistic home for so many years. Del Monaco is simply wonderful here and we are fortunate to have the live recording of them both with Mitropoulos' stunning orchestral direction. As for Steber's Met Fanciulla , at least we can be glad for her that she was able to step on stage , feel the warmth of her public and sing the role she loved even if only for that one occasion.
