A fascinating machine that pre-dates the Pascaline by a couple of decades. I'm not sure that the "buffer" memory wheels have much utility, particularly if the calculation is already written down on paper.

If one looks back to Peter Apian (1495-1552), he has beautiful rotating astronomical data disks in his books. His son was at Tübingen university like Schickard and died there 30 years before Schickard's invention. I wonder if there is any influence of these paper disks on the buffer.

The frame of the calculator is 42 cm wide, 20 cm deep and 42 cm high. The movable registers are 62 cm wide.
