ADDITIONAL COSTS I Wish I Knew BEFORE Purchasing A Vapor Blaster $$$$

In this video, I explain the additional costs that you MUST understand FIRST, before purchasing a Vapor Blasting machine. These costs exclude the price of the machine itself. I should have done more due diligence about what was needed and worked those costs into my budget BEFORE spending over an additional $2,000 on top of the cost of the machine.
My intentions are to simply make future buyers aware of these costs so they aren't surprised like I was from my lack of research! I am MORE THAN HAPPY with the purchase of my Weekend Warrior machine and it was a phenomenal tool that I have added to my business. I would certainly do it over again.

I dont really think these are "Hidden costs" all of the machines have a spec sheet that show power requirements and the horse power / cfm for air compressor operation, and its generally good practice to get a quote for the machine with shipping before you buy. Its often cheaper to just arrange your own shipping i had a quote of $2500 to ship my machine to California but went through a freight broker and had a goose neck trailer pick up truck deliver here for $1500. I think its just of doing your due diligence and research before full sending it on a purchase.

Glad you found value! I ended up selling it and now I send my parts out. It is WAY cheaper lol. The amount of time and engine cases that you would have to VB in order to see a return is A LOT. Luckily I was able to sell the entire set up for what I bought it for. Minus the shipping cost.

I feel you you on those cost I did research for before buying just to make sure I had the money available. It was 500 dollars for the shipping of my vapor blaster which was shipped from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. But what was I supposed to do, if I don't pay for shipping I wouldn't have my vapor blaster. I made out lucky on the wiring my friend is a union electrician and he did the install for half the price of going rate. But in the end it's all worth it in the end

Dude I totally agree with you! The shipping cost is just what it is and something that I should have asked about when purchasing it. Without a doubt still worth it, but wanted to give people a heads up! I needed a larger air compressor anyway and worth every dollar as well. At the end of the day, I am 100% glad about the purchase, but it would have been nice to understand those costs more up front so it wasn't as much of a surprise.

I just purchased a vapor honing and yes there some cost like the special hoses to hook up the machine but is a great tool

Yeah, big buzz over vapor hones. Problem is bare metal is going to corrode, so it's a temporary beauty. You could have bought a large enough bead blaster to do frames and saved a lot of money because no matter what, you're going to need to finish the metal. My brother's XS650 motor was vapor honed and looked unbelievable, but even with constant care it has become dull and developed spots. Aluminum, especially cast, is packed with impurities, that's why it's virtually impossible to weld a cracked case. A swingarm or aluminum dirt bike frame is a lot cleaner, but once you remove the finish, you'll be polishing regularly. Vapor hones do a great job and leave an awesome surface, but when a part is getting anodized or cerakote I don't think it will make a noticeable difference over a bead blaster.

I suggest wiring up with a 50 amp circuit even if you only need a 30. That way when you decide to get a welder you're already set. If you are buying a vapor blaster you likely will be getting a welder down the road 😄

Greg what does it cost to send parts out to get blasted? What want point would you say it make sense to purchase a blaster vs sending parts out. This “complete cost” is higher then I thought it would be. Thanks for the video!

No problem Mike, thought it would great info to share with everyone who might be on the fence about it. The blaster has been nothing but awesome and I'm pumped on it. But if you need the air compressor, and electrical work, you are definitely looking at $4-5K easily for a complete set up where sending your parts to get vapor blasted depending on how many is going to be a couple hundred or so. Unless you are doing serious volume work with the blaster, it'll take a while to break even on just home projects you know?

Hey Greg, I’m considering buying the same Quincy QT-54 model compressor for my blasting cabinet. Have you had any issues with your Quincy in terms of reliability? Any issues with it not being able to keep up when cleaning larger parts like a frame? I just don’t want to over-stress the compressor when blasting.

Hey Israel! You’re going to love the Quincy. Probably the best compressor you can buy actually. I never had a problem pushing the blaster with it! It is a work horse.

Anyone who is buying the vapor honing machine. Find your own carrier that will pick-up for you and deliver it. It will only cost $200 to $300 across America. Dont ask VHT to ship it for you.

Those were two things I thought about first. I have a MicroHone, and it works quite well. But many times I would like more room and of course the larger ones also do the work faster. I spent a bundle on a compressor, since I was tired of the noise. I got a 7.5hp Quincy rotary screw- $$$$ but certainly is quiet and puts out a LOT of air. Electrical I did myself, but I did have to buy heavier gauge wire compared to my old compressor- and even 24’ of that was almost $100. Plus a breaker of course. I am interested in things for the cabinet itself you decided you wanted after owning. I have a Weekend Warrior on order, and already know the lighting will not be good enough. But I have three waterproof LED strips I will install. (I know you can also order with better lighting, but more $$ than I felt results were worth). The other thing is a ‘closed loop’ setup. I am going to make one, since I don’t want to spend another grand… How about you? What else did you want?
