"I'm not contributing anything." Pff. Rosie, it's the donor that isn't contributing anything. You aren't just becoming a parent, you're starting a family. Family means everyone does their part, and while Rose is pregnant, your part will be taking care of her. You will never feel more useful than when you are caring for your wife and child. Being a parent doesn't start at conception or birth. It's a state of mind. If you feel like you aren't contributing by the time Rose is pregnant, I'll buy a hat just so I can eat it.

So, I’m adopted, I might have some insight :) Even though I’ve gone through a lot of identity issues, the one thing that has been a solid fact for me has been that both of my parents are my “real” parents, even though we have no biological relations. I don’t look like anyone in my family, yet I have very clear traits from both my mom and my dad, which other people see and point out. They have been establishing a certainty of unconditional love and support through all of my 25 years, and not once have I felt a disconnect from either. They love both me and my younger brother (who is their biological son) the same. I think you both will be amazing parents, and the children you have together will feel 100% both of yours, despite the birth mother. As long as you don’t have doubts about their place, they won’t, and you’ll be their safe space. I understand the difficulties of having “roles” but whatever you do will feel absolutely normal to your kids because it’ll be what they’re used to. Biology will not ultimately be an issue, at least it never was for me :)

Using gender roles because that is the language we currently have for this sort of situation. Rosie, it really does seem like you are having the daddy blues but once you see that baby you will know your place. I am a lesbian who would love to have kids but has never had the urge to give birth myself. So the way I see my role being is the super supportive "father", the person who gets to run to the grocery store for ice cream and pickles because my wife is craving weird shit at 3 am! I get to be the person my wife looks at when you see the ultrasound for the first time. I get to be the one who holds her hair back when she's got morning sickness and hold her hand as she gives birth to our child! That will be so rewarding! And it sounds like you have plans to give birth to a baby yourself so then the roles can be switched and you both will get to experience both sides of parenthood! That's something heteronormative (I'm not sure that's the correct word) couples don't get to experience. Thank you for airing your concerns, it really does matter!

This is something that literally EVERY parent goes through in one shape or another. Theirs is just in front of a camera.
@whyarepeoplethewaythattheyare4 жыл бұрын
@aven 7604 Alas, that's to be expected because we were, most of us, raised in a hetero normative environment. It's up to each individual to work out how they fit into a child's life, outside of the steretypical hetero normative standards. I guess that's what I meant by "EVERY" parent goes through this, because even if they were a mother and a father (unless they decided to fully buy into hetero normative roles) they would at some point still be having discussions similar to the one they are having now. It's not exactly the same each time, but becoming a parent almost always drives a person into an identity crisis, regardless of gender, sex, or sexual orientation.
@whyarepeoplethewaythattheyare4 жыл бұрын
@aven 7604 Ah I see what you mean. I was approaching it from the expectant parents perspective. Honestly, it's pretty much the same for those asking. If you'll notice, they're asking the same questions that Rosie is asking herself, because of the environment we live in and the things we've been used to seeing. The only thing some of those people are actively doing wrong is purporting to know the answers to these questions, instead of backing off and realising that we all have much to learn about pretty much every fucking thing ever.
@whyarepeoplethewaythattheyare4 жыл бұрын

So I can speak candidly about this. My wife and I wanted to start the “BABY” journey about a year back. My wife had a hysterectomy and I would be the only one caring, unfortunately I have PCOS & Endometriosis. My wife, even through her excitement, had that same “envy” while we were researching about getting pregnant & the attention that she wanted at one point as well was now in me. All I can say is, my wife felt the same heartbreak when we found out our difficult it would be for us to become parents. Not because she was sad just for her, but because her wife was hurting. It also is also so important to remember, Rosie you are STILL that baby’s parent. You are going to have such a special relationship with them that if someone comes up to you with your child in your arms you would simply say, “my wife and I just had a baby. Rose is feeling better after delivery!” The same way my wife says “we’re battling infertility”. It’s our struggle, not just mine. That’s y’all baby, not just Roses. Being raised by hetero-standards and having those stereotypes in our mind, it makes us question the judgements and thoughts of others. People are dicks. That’s it. We’re the trailblazers for those so they know they can break away from that ideology. Y’all will be amazing parents. You, Rosie will be so happy to see your wife have y’all’s child & I PROMISE, the thought of “not biologically mine” will not be something you think or say. My wife looks more fem then me, I’m more masculine and I started thinking during our first IVF, do I need to grow my hair and wear skirts again. Fuck that. Our child will know their Mom and Mama for who they are. You and Rose will find this part of your life. Unfortunately my wife and I have a infertility struggle before a baby comes, but I get the thoughts and battles you are faced with. I wish you both the best in 2020. Y’all got this.

It is really comforting to hear that other people, especially you guys who seem so together and self confident have times of self doubt . I came out at 40 and am still struggling with working out who I am. I had 3 children with my (now ex) husband and these kinds of issues were present then too. Changing from a wife to a mother and having someone in your life who is more important than either of you is tough and you are right to talk about it. It is natural to worry. You guys are open with each other and you clearly talk it all out. You’re going to be fine. Thank you for showing us that having the occasional life crisis is normal x

I'm speaking as the future 'Other mother' and also hit that dreaded age of 30 in 2019 too. 😂 We have sadly just miscarried in the last month BUT it's normal to freak out. I had so many feelings around it. The panic of being the only 'Non-biological' parent. Knowing I would love the child but would I be seen as that child's parent. I mean I could go on, the point is it sends you into a frenzy of feelings, which are hard and scary! What I can say is though, when your wife / partner comes to you with that positive pregnancy test, it's scary BUT there is also an overwhelming sense of love..for your partner and the life she's growing. I have SO much respect for my wife since we started this journey! I don't know either of you, I watch your videos but what you portray shows love, strength and support. You're gonna smash it! Both of you! 😊 Ps. Sorry for the absolutely novel.

Our friendship group are all in heteronormative relationships and despite their support, they still don’t really understand the ins and outs of the personal emotional strain it can have. Thankful for you two sharing such a personal journey. Wishing you both the best of luck! You’ll be bloody brilliant 💙

This is eerily similar to my mums, one was bi like Rosie, the other is a older lesbian like Rose (their age gap was way bigger) she's my bio mum but it is absolutely crazy. its like watching my mums go through the process of having me bc its all the same like doner kid, no egg swapping. Cant beleive I only just found you guys!

They do such an amazing job of never getting annoyed when they interrupt each other 😂 They both do it a decent amount and the other just immediately stops and listens. I can see why their relationship is so successful. Respect and the ability to listen is so important! 💕

I’m really glad that you are both talking about this. My partner and I have had this conversation countless times and we still feel unsure on how it will play out. We’re both feminine and want to carry and have both felt the same as you are now Rosie. It’s really helpful that you are talking about it and I’m glad it isn’t just us over thinking. Thank you for talking about it and unfortunately I have no helpful advice 😂 Also the masculine thing I get completely! We said it’s like taking on some sort of innate “dad” role we feel we have to fill even though we don’t actually think that way...if that makes sense.

When rosie asked “should we name our baby, bianca?” ... I was like “hell naaahhh. I’ve been watching y’all since 2014 and you’re gonna end up naming your future baby after my first relationship with a girl who broke my heart into million pieces???!?!” OML THANK YOU ROSE FOR NOT AGREEING 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕 GUCCI IS BETTER 😊😂😆 It’s at 14:36

Loved the honesty. Milestone birthdays have always been a tough for me too. The day I turned 20 was horrible...I had to step into adulthood! You guys are going to be wonderful parents. Rosie, try not to be too hard on yourself....you are going to be a wonderful mum (so are you Rose). I believe a successful relationship requires 3 aspects: always keeping you as you and allow your partner to be them but both giving their all to the US part. Basically.....look at it as 2 circles that over lap halfway...that overlapped part is where your children are....it’s the 100 % OUR part.

Rose and Rosie, listen to a podcast called 'Where Should We Begin' by Esther Perel. In particular, listen to the episode named "Motherless Women". Perel is a couple's therapist. In this episode, she speaks with a lesbian couple about the issues they are facing as parents of two kids. Perel also addresses the masculine-feminine dynamic between a lesbian couple. This podcast episode might help you guys in some ways.

Honestly fuck I love you two. You were there exactly when I needed you at 16 and you’re there now I’m older and still need people to look up to. I would really love more of these stories and talks, and Rosie I can’t wait to read your blog this year. 💕💕

Rosie I have personally gone though the same worries and feelings your describing when my wife was pregnant with our first. It is "hard" and some people are gonna act like Rose is a single mother at times and it will hurt. However being there for Rose and that baby, the things she'll need you for will fill you with more than enough worth than you'll know what to do with. Read to that belly, talk to it, sing to it, and the rewards you'll get are indescribable, once that baby starts responding to your voice it won't even be a worry anymore. As for biological, I may not be biologically related to my children but I put in the work, and went through that journey "with" my wife. My children may look like my wife but their mannerisms their facial expressions ( because that is a learned thing also), their personality is me. So go easy on yourself I'm not saying its a smooth road but that child will know who you are to them.

Finding this channel was one of the best things to ever happen to me in 2019. Your journey is so beautiful and truly motivates me to keep on pushing. You both inspire me so much in so many different ways but particularly in being brave. I appreciate you both opening up and sharing your experiences especially in this video❤️ Here’s to a chaotic yet enjoyable 2020

I wish that more youtubers were more open about what is going on in their life and how they are struggling with different things . I love that you do these uncut videos because you can see how all it takes is to talk about what is wrong to find a solution which is so clear especially in this video. Rosie is struggling to find a role in the pregnancy and Rose is reassuring her that she will always have a role in the pregnancy . This is such an amazing video and I love your channel so much ❤❤
