If you have questions this channel is a good place to start. I'm coptic and let assure you we claim in Divine Liturgy: Jesus Christ is 100%man and 100%God, without mingling, confusion or seperation; he never lost His divinity, not even for a twinkling of an eye. This is the Athanasius formula. Ppl online like to say we are monophysite or myaphysite but it's propaganda from the 5th century still. One word cannot articulate the nature of Christ or His Being in the Incarnation, that's why we use that formula. He has two natures, one hypostasis and one person while incarnate. I can't speak for other OO churches, but Coptic orthodoxy follows EO and RC as far as Christ walked the earth. Hope this helps.

It’s so nice to see such a great guest on our beloved channel! In an age where the world is so firmly against the church, it’s beautiful to see the ancient members of the body holding fast to the traditions handed to us (2 Thessalonians 2:15) ✝️

Those holding fast to the tradition handed down are becoming fewer and fewer by the day. Roman Catholics accepted foreign teachings (like pope's supremacy/infallibility and purgatory) long ago. Now foreign teachings are becoming more problematic in the Coptic Church but some bishops - just some - still have the courage to speak up and correct.

@@mwhabs the Holy Tradition handed down is uniform and we don't compromise it for the sake of a false sense of unity. This 'unity without uniformity' slogan carries much risk for confusion. There is no diversity in the faith. If anyone claiming to be a shepherd claims we should accept diversity in the faith (e.g. accept the idea of St. Mary born sinless or purgatory or papal primacy/infallibility or that sexually confused couples can be blessed) then we do not seek unity with this.

How nice to see my two favorite Coptic priests, Fr. Anthony and Fr. Gabriel! (also the only two I have encountered). Many times in recent years your presentations via Copticorthodoxanswers on KZbin have blessed me. I recently heard a comment that the Orthodox cherish experiencing God while protestants structure their faith on legalities and mistrust experience. In some ‘charismatic’ protestant circles I have seen strange invention, and in some legalistic protestant circles I have seen a cage of legalities where one can barely breathe spiritually. I am currently wrestling in my mind on sacraments, symbolic remembrance or substance? Fr. Anthony I very much liked your introduction to the concept of a synergistic relationship between the Holy Spirit and the believer. Does a branch lying detached on the ground grow grapes so it can become attached to the vine, or does a rebirth into the vine become a branch that by its new nature produces fruit? At present I thank God for the both of you.

This collaboration can give some the impression that Coptic Orthodox is same faith as Trent's Roman Catholicism. As suggested at 01:09:11 , I went to Trent's KZbin page and came across Trent's video "Did the Church fathers believe in purgatory?". Trent claims at minute 3 (second 8) of his video that the core essence of purgatory is traced back to the church fathers. What do I do with this now?

@@coptictunes In humility we find truth. "Purgatory" is only a human term applied so as to make the process understandable. Something must occur before we are purified so as to stand in the presence of God. Men differ on the terminology and even the methodology, but "something" must occur. @CopticOrthodoxAnswers It's a matter truth. Here is the Roman Catholic Church explanation of purgatory: "Because if they die truly repentant in charity before they have made satisfaction by worthy fruits of penance for (sins) committed and omitted, their souls are cleansed after death by purgatorical or purifying PUNISHMENTS, as Brother John * has explained to us. And to relieve punishments of this kind, the offerings of the living faithful are of advantage to these".

The "Bereans" - Lets' consider them as examples. They were absolutely absorbed in scripture. 24/7/365 they studied it, disputed over it, pondered it, read it and memorized it. In all of this, they missed one small detail: JESUS CHRIST. Even when Paul preached Christ to them, they still doubted and ran back to the same scriptures (which had prevented them from recognizing Christ). And again, EVEN after that, not all of them converted. They are a good example ONLY in comparison to the Thessalonians - who were ready to stone Paul.

You keep referring to St. Paul and St. Peter, as Paul and Peter, one of the things that separates us from the Protestants is that we use reverence. We say holy scriptures. They say the Bible, they say Mary, we say the Holy Virgin we say St. Peter, St Paul. They say Paul, Peter, get back in the habit of saying saints👍

Agree with using St. But Trent is Byzantine Catholic so he does usually/should say Theotokos. The Latin Rite says Blessed Virgin Mary (BVM). When it's a church named after her, it's often St. Mary or Immaculata. But agree with your point (and wouldn't have any issue with Holy Virgin, Holy Mother )

You guys TOTALLY miss the point, am afraid. What is THE doctrial authority for Christian Doctrine & Practice? God reveals to us His Word, that is Scripture, is TRUTH. GOD does not vouch for any other source of Doctrine and practice as being TRUTH. Nothing can compare as a Prime Source of Doctrine & Practice to Scripture The Sola in Sola Scriptura stands for only source of Infallible doctrine.Scripture is what has established what is True Doctrine. Nothing else. John 20.31 Lets us know that it is what is written, that makes us believe in Christ and thru that belief we can then access Life Etenal Paul also warns us "NOT TO GO BEYOND WHAT IS WRITTEN" In 1st Corinthians 4.6. And it is from Scripture that we get the other Solas which are taught by it.

If you don’t have a unified interpretation of Scripture though, you can’t have a unified church. Before denominations, there was only one church and efforts by fallible men to unify the understanding of the Scripture by the power of the infallible Holy Spirit that God promised to us. Out of curiousity, can you then exegete 1 Timothy 3:15 where the church is said ‘ground and pillar of truth’ when “truth” is in reference to the scriptures? God bless! ✝️

Why quote one verse and omit the rest, especially the context? First, St. Paul also said: "Stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether BY WORD or our epistle" - 2 Ths 2:15. Second, on 1 Cor 4:6, the context is the concept of judging others, even being 'puffed up' to the point of judging St. Paul. 'What is written' is here referring to Lord's command not to judge. It is referring to that specific command, not the Gospel in its entirety. After all, there was much yet to be written by the apostles as St. Paul was writing this FIRST letter to the Corinthians. For corroboration, read St. John Chrysostom's commentary on this verse: "But what is the meaning of, not to be wise above what is written? It is written, Matthew 7:3 Why do you behold the mote that is in your brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in your own eye? and Judge not, that you be not judged. For if we are one and are mutually bound together, it behooves us not to rise up against one another. For he that humbles himself shall be exalted, says he. And Matthew 20:26-27; Mark 10:43; not verbatim He that will be first of all, let him be the servant of all. These are the things which are written. That no one of you be puffed up for one against another."
