Remove three inserts, and you have a fly cutter. I have an Ebay special Sandvik 6 insert face mill, which also has a pocket which must be distorted, as one insert sits proud. I removed that one and two others at 120°, and use it as a three tooth cutter. Your sweater looks the one I made by holding the angle grinder in one spot with the sparks hitting my stomach. Keep the great content flowing. Thanks.
@CraigsWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
Good thinking! A fly cutter can give a better finish too, usually (at the expense of speed.)

RotarySMP been there done that many times, shirts, jogging bottoms you name it, you know when your leg starts to get hot it's time to stop the angle grinder before A, the shirt or bottoms catch fire or B, shirt or bottoms start to melt on you depending if they are natural fibre ( fire! ) or synthetic ( 3rd degree burns!)

Great job on the vice clamps, always the luck of the draw from Banggood, currently about 70% of useable equipment. I think they rely on selling cheap, then expect the decadent westerner's not to bother complaining. I purchased a ER collet face plate in November 2018, order arrived December, and they sent some other items, much emailing, and photos, took till May 2019 to get correct item. Great vlog Ade, thanks for sharing. Stay safe all.

Wayne Smith I was lucky, I ordered a 50mm 5 tooth shell mill on Fleabay, and it didn't come with an arbor, or inserts,so I ordered an MT 3 arbor from Banggood and the inserts from fleabay as I couldn't find the right ones from Banggood. The shell and arbor arrived a few weeks ago and the inserts last week. Today is the first chance I've had to critically look at the stuff after watching Ades vlog this morning I thoroughly cleaned the mill mt3 spindle and checked the internal spindle run out, which turned out to be between 2 & 3 tenths, then fitted the arbor and I've got a total of half a thou runout so I'm well pleased. All the insert bar one are nice and level, so I have machined one side of a block of 3" square by 6" long cast iron. Got a but of tramming issues ( it's a mill drill combo with the mill pillar attached to the headstock type like the Machinemart lathe) but the finish is quite good. I have just taken the shell mill off of the arbor and cleaned it and looked at the inserts and the one that was different was sitting a bit higher and I have just polished the bottom of the pocket to let the insert go lower with a thousand grit diamond hone and will try it again later. Sorry it's a bit long winded!

@@samrodian919 Hi there, you were lucky ,I ordered 2 face mills both no use they are produced by the thousands and next to no quality control. The one I am using I had to mark one cutter place ( tip slightly low ) and go through tips one by one turning them around until one fits as each tip seems to be different ( sourced from ban goo ) .happy chipping and be safe

Bummer about the face mill, it really seems like tooling coming from "there" is hit and miss. Gotten some reasonable stuff and some stuff that was simply scrap metal out of the box. Hopefully you can get a better one soon.

Hi Ade, Nice video about the vice, is it the same as those supplied by Arc Euro Trade? Could you please tell me what size Tee nuts and slot size the WM16B uses? Thanks, Chris
@ade63dug4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris . the slots are 12mm and the threads are typically 10mm . I have made some M5 and M8 t nuts so far for various things for my mill but the max is M10 . i think if i were to buy the clamp kit again that i woud buy the one with M8 studs etc and then make my own t nuts to suit , the M10 seems overkill on a mill of this size . Glad to help , stay home and stay safe , Cheers Ade.
@mender26244 жыл бұрын
Hi Ade, Thanks for the prompt reply - much appreciated. I've ordered a WM16B but there is no clear guidance on the website on the Tee slot size. I've done some milling on my lathe but vertical milling is new to me, and I wasn't sure which clamping kit or Tee bolts to order. I 'm maybe confusing things by assuming that a particular metric thread size must have a fixed size of Tee nut or Tee Bolt head size to fit the WM16B tee slots. Obviously if you were to make your own Tee nuts and bolts you coulD use whatever thread size you like. Interesting that you think the M8 kit is ok, but is the area of the M8 nut surface large enough for the WM16B slots?
@ade63dug4 жыл бұрын
@@mender2624 I think we got our wires crossed . You do need the t nuts for a 12mm slot . the standard kits will have a M10 stud with these nuts . What i was saying is that the sets with the M8 studs would be ok but you would need to make your own t nuts to fit the 12mm table slots but with an M8 thread instead of the M10 standard ones , Cheers Ade.
@mender26244 жыл бұрын
Hello Ade, I think I've finally got it, 10mm stud and 12mm slots. I'd been thinking of buying a milling machine for ages but your videos inspired me to take the plunge and get one! Great stuff and plenty to keep us occupied in these unusual times. Best Regards, Chris

Ade! My soft trousers, only used indoors, looks the same as Your pullower! They have extra ventilation because of chips being pulled out of them…… Not holes, more like mailboxes…. At 4:11. That was really a sad chap, that face milling head. Could You mount 1 insert and use it as a fly cutter? Or mount the 2 sticking out inserts and have a double fly cutter? I'm joking. Ask Banggood for a total refund accompanied with some pictures. At the time 6:00. Why not put a blind powerplug in the other outlet? That's easier. Then You have fun for 42 minutes. I share Your success. Was turning for 5 hours yesterday and today my back is tired…..

Re the milling head, i think its the luck of the draw, mine is "perfect" not all Chinese are unscrupulous, although i have had a few things that could be better but not bad enough to make them useless. I have also found that buying from Aliexpress rather than Banggood, products are cheaper and of better quality with more choice too. The odd thing that was bad I was instantly refunded, whereas with banggood you have to explain, send photos of packaging, product and video etc. in order to get even a partial refund, with Aliexpress a photo of the problem is enough to get full refund. Not to be abused but i feel more comfortable buying through Aliexpess even though the actual seller is quite often the same person. Just my personal experience.

Yeah, as I wrote above, I bought one from Amazon, and it's been good. I too have had a bit of a mixed result from buying things from any of the different suppliers. It seems like it's all the same items either way (although randomly you find a nice item you think will arrive from China, but it turns out to be made in India).
@robertoswalt3194 жыл бұрын
I purchased one of those about a year ago. When I tried squaring some stock I discovered that the lead edge would dig into one edge and cut a bevel while the trailing edge cut as it should. I believe the issue is with the arbor not mating properly with the cutter head. As you said, absolute garbage

Well you do tend to extend the videos by showing repeated drilling and cutting on all of the clamps, no real need to show every little detail on every clamp, gets a bit boring watching the same operation over and over again. Makes your videos a bit boring, would be more interesting if you stopped repeating your same cuts
