Great series, might have been tempted to rough it out with an angle grinder and a 1mm cutting disc and then finish off by milling it out.

I'm enjoying this project but don't understand one thing. Why do you use fixed stops on the tool holders? One thing that I like about quick change tool holders is the ease of adjusting the center height if I change tools or regrind the one that's in it.

i will only use a fixed stop on insert tools where the height is not a variable. any toolholders for hss, grindable tooling will be adjustable for the reason you stated, cheers ADE.

Super videos improving each episode. Why do you not use coolant or lube on the milling?

Hi just purchased a warco 180 lathe,I am new to metal working lathes and ordered a quick change tool post from Warco for the 180 ,only to be told it would be another £40 for them to machine it, £100 in total. Then seeing your comments on the quicktool post decided not to carry on with the order, even though they took my money before they told me it would cost more. They also asked me to provide measurements on a diagram, perhaps I am stupid but if I bought the lathe from them and ordered the tool post from them for the 180 lathe - why do I need to give them measurements - bit fed up by this stage. Do you know where I can get one that will fit or am I going to have to stick with the standard one supplied with the lathe. Is there anyone who makes them to purchase from? Moan over Gary

there are many online piston type toolposts , however you will need to machine them to fit your lathe . simple to do in the four jaw to fit your compound slide. buy an all steel one as some are aluminium . warco should know the sizes as you say , crazy . i ordered mine at the same time as the lathe and did not encounter this . good luck , Ade.
