I once heard that in the past, books (maybe more specifically a bible) would often be a persons most expensive possession. So much work goes into that. That was amazing.

Not to mention the expense of finding someone literate and paying them for the time it takes to write the work out by hand, and also for the illuminator to finish all the pages with art.
