For those asking "Orente" simply means "DAMSEL" ........You're welcome :D
@FroMaestro8 жыл бұрын
+DanTemmy it's a really ancient Yoruba word isn't it? Cuz I'm here completely unable to break it down... Is it made up of any smaller words, or is it a whole term by itself that means 'damsel'/'girl'/'babe' lol
@TCt830676958 жыл бұрын
+FroMaestro is it really Yoruba? i have never heard that word like ever. i thought maybe it was a igbo name
@Laykay018 жыл бұрын
+DanTemmy 'Orente' doesn't just mean "Damsel". That translation is too loose. Yoruba is a very rich language. 'Opeke', 'Omoge', 'Sisi', 'Orente' etc. are all synonyms for a young beautiful woman or damsel but they don't convey absolutely the same nuance. 'Orente' is used to describe a beautiful young lady that is SHORT or SMALLISH. You can't call a tall lady (no matter how beautiful) 'orente'. If you are in doubt about who to call 'orente'...look at his love interest in this video. She is the archetypal 'orente'.
@FroMaestro8 жыл бұрын
Laykay thaaaaaank you. Finally, a translation that jives with how I've seen it used. Orente --> 'small and cute', 'short & sweet' etc.

duyile oluwatoyin In Yoruba culture, Orente is not really a personal name. It is a pet name sometimes given to 'emini iyawo' , the little female relation that accompanied new bride , for a short period ,to her husband's house.
