One of the most prized exhibits at the St Kilda Tramway Museum is Adelaide's very first electric tram, A type number 1. This was the tram that opened the original Adelaide tram system back in March, 1909. Today (now over 100 years old), number 1 has been restored to near original condition and is maintained in fully operational condition.
Because of its historical significance, number 1 is only used on special occasions at the museum. For filming of the upcoming 'A type tram profile' video being produced by the museum, number 1 made a rare outing onto the museum line. A short section of film shot for the upcoming video is shown here to give the rare treat of seeing number 1 in operation.
