I got into Jiu-jitsu 9 years ago when i was 15. Because of the problems you just solved with this video, i quit 4 times and got back into it 4 times. I trained at five different places and yet no one seemed to have the time to tell a white belt what exactly he was doing wrong with his guard. Coming across this video is the best thing that's happened to me so far in my journey of jiu-jitsu. Thank you so much ! Saying you are an excellent instructor is an understatement.

Hey Adem, i've recently started rolling with senior students and i was finding it really difficult to make sense of what was i supposed to do, how to start, how to defend, all the confusing names etc because in class usually a move is demonstrated, we practice it and we roll but your video has very eloquently broken down the principles or 101s, i really appreciate you taking time out to put content like this for beginners like me. All the best. Looking forward to lots more content like this :)

When I first watched this a year ago as a white belt, I'm sorry to say, I zoned out on it. It was a little beyond my understanding at the time; however, a year later, it makes SO much more sense. I cannot stress how good this video is and how much it as helped me with my guard, from a practical and conceptual stand-point. You hear about all these different variations of open guard eg, De La Riva, tornado, worm guard etc. which gets confusing for the novice grappler like myself. What you've done is gone beyond that and broken things down to their most basic, fundamental components. These principles are as near universal as you can get. You can't advance to higher levels of mathematics if you can't even do basic algebra. Well this is the basic algebra of open guard play you need to understand, laying the foundation for further progression. Most great guard players have an unconscious-kinesthetic awareness of what to do, but are horrible at breaking things down to its fundamental components. Instead of having a massive technique library, I'd like to see a more conceptual approach to jiu jistu, emphasizing the basic principles of what needs to be done in different positions adopted more often, very much like this video. You are obviously an excellent teacher and someone who knows how to break things down into easily understandable chunks. I will be buying your side-control video from Budo Videos. I also hope you decide to capitalize on your teaching skills and monetize it by producing more instructionals.

Fantastic information. Idk if it’s just coincidence or what, but I went to my 5th jiu jitsu practice today after watching this video. While rolling, I kept reminding myself of the points of defense. I understand there’s a little more to learn in the video but I’m starting small. Anyway, for the first practice ever, I wasn’t submitted. I rolled with two blue belts and a 2 strip white belt. I’m sure they were taking it a little easy on me but I usually get submitted almost every single time lol. Anyway, great video, great tools that I’ll keep under my belt for the rest of my jiu jitsu career. Thx 🤙
