The brutal attack on South Yemeni politicians in 1986, when assassins stormed a meeting of the country's cabinet.
The audacious assassination of South Yemeni politicians during a cabinet meeting in 1986 remains a landmark moment in the region's history. Now, we hear exclusive recent testimony from South Yemen's then-president, whose bodyguards carried out the attack. A leader of the political assassination squad and another eyewitness capture the extreme violence used as one political faction attempted to wipe out its rivals, in a minute-by-minute account. Reporter Gamal al Moliky tells how this rivalry escalated into a series of assassinations in 1986 that were shocking, even by the violent standards of Yemen at the time.

And Australia with the World's oldest & still thriving Indigenous peoples! The Brits, the convicts & settlers could not annihilate Aboriginal Peoples whose recorded history goes back to at least 75,000 years. Recent archaeological findings could go even further back, to 110,000 years ago.

I am a journalist from Yemen and would like to write my comment on the documentary. The film is generally good at addressing the political causes and motives behind disputes in order to reach a fight between the Socialist Party's comrades, all of which are part of the ambition of power and the desire of each party to be singled out. But the film did not mention another major reason behind this power struggle and this is wrong in my opinion because it lacks the overall historical context. The conflict initially had a purely political basis for power and then came the regional factor, where the division was based on the territorial basis between the owners of Abyan and Shabwa, led by Ali Nasser, on the one hand, and Ali Anter's party. This regional problem could not be eliminated by the Socialist Party in its reign, even though it had wiped out the power of the tribal-Shukhab and forced them to join the party. Finally, despite these tragic events, these men have been genuine and national leaders unlike today's North and South.

Thanks. But what do you think Ali Antar's main issue was with Ali Nasser? That Antar wanted war with the North, while Nasser didn't?
@MarebAlward

@@numanfaha555 Good morning. The conflict over power is politically and regionally motivated. After the overthrow of Mr. Ali Rabi, Ali Nasser was a prominent figure and it was this that angered Ali Antar because he aspired to rule.

Sadly this still proves that despite all the tragedy Yemen has suffered…notice money somehow keeps flowing so that weapons can be purchased and men/women will find a to keep having babies during civil war conflict, famine, droughts to keep producing the next generation of sons to keep the internal fighting going. Not to mention the Americans and Saudi’s teaming up to keep Yemen in a spiral because if America and Saudi as a proxy can’t [own] and [control] Yemen (the geopolitical curse), then they will make sure China or Russia doesn’t help stabilize the country and get Yemen back on road to recovery. Same goes for Somalia! Both very sad story’s.

What occurred in Aden was due to adopting foreign systems instead to returning back to our Deen and the strong tribal customs that we had (and still have) for thousands of years before the Brits divided and conquered. Its easy to blame the west for funding groups, but the reality is some of us are still willing to entertain it to gain power. May Allah guide our leaders and unite us upon truth.

Societal confusion, aggression and violence generally fills the void left by a departing hegemon. One of the many problems arising is the acquisition of advanced technology and weaponry together with unsustainable foreign debt and sanctions. The tribes and factions remaining inherit a war economy and debt. Two centuries prior, this wasn't the extreme problem it became in the 20th and 21st centuries. The details of each international crisis differ slightly, but the fundamentals remain the same to this day. Now the consequences are being experienced in the lands of the originators located in the global north. We know who they are.

For as long as there is regional, tribal and personal power struggle, mistrust will never cease to exist. Until crave, greed and hunger for power ceases, Yemen will never see or know peace. Yemen is the only Arab nation that has suffered an infinite social, economic & political turmoils since independence.
