This is very helpful indeed. I'm an experienced driver, but one needs to be reminded of current good driving practice. I liked the bonus footage: a good visual and psychological reminder to add to the drivers toolkit of mental notes. Thank you so much.

Also, I try to keep distance when stopping behind a car in a traffic because if an emergency vehicle shows up, you need some space to move to the side of the road to allow wide enough passage for the emergency vehicle to be safe.

Well presented; but here’s a minor comment: In a DSA guide book publication, it advises that one should be aware of what’s behind when deciding what your braking distance should be, not just the weather etc. Essentially, if something is much too close, you can’t do an emergency stop, so the only option is to widen the gap a bit in front.

For the Doors Width Gap, MUST the distance be 1 Meter, or could it be approximate? The car I was tested on has door sensors, so beeps when you are within 30 inches, and I failed for side clearance, but must have been at least 30 inches away because the car sensors did not chirp or beep. Also, when I passed the parked truck, I was driving in bumper to bumper traffic at 2 to 6 MPH, so does passing on the side depend on speed as well?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool2 жыл бұрын
The 1 meter, or ‘doors width’ gap is approximate - but it is OK to pass a little closer when driving slowly (10mph or less). Our car beeps sometimes (and even applies the brakes!) when going too close to parked cars - but not every time, so is not a reliable way of measuring the gap. Just give plenty of space (1 - 1.5M) in order to reduce danger to a minimum and the examiner should be happy. 👍🏼

What is the best way to deal with cars parked near a junction on a two way road but with several cars meaning I have to keep more centre but then I need to turn left. During my first lesson I was not in the correct position after passing cars (too far right) which made turning left very wide.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
We should do our best to stay in our lane as much as possible, but as you mention parked cars will force us out of position sometimes. When this happens, be extra careful not to get in the way of oncoming traffic.

What will be the stopping distance in case of cars of more height or maybe truck or a bus?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
Heavier vehicles will generally take longer to stop, but there are many variables (such as road conditions / tyre wear etc) so we can’t give precise distances.

I don't understand "doors width gap" please elaborate
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
When we pass a parked car we should leave a metres gap (or the width of a door) between the vehicles, just in case something unexpected happened - such as a door opening or a careless pedestrian stepping out!

Does that 2 seconds gap apply in night time as well ? At night the visibility is less when u drive outside of town 😀 .

The 2 second gap is the minimum at any time - but should be increased when visibility is poor, such as in rain/fog/night.

How can I judge the left side of my car?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
Try stopping next to a parked car, and then get out to check you have left a metre gap. Then get back in and see how it looks from the drivers seat. Then practice driving slowly past parked cars until you get used to how it looks.

In philippines you will not reach to your destination if you put gap between you and other car cos other vehicle will get inside the space to get ahead specially in very busy area.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool6 жыл бұрын
If another car takes the gap in front of us, we just back off a little until our 2 second gap is restored. We only lose 1 second every time this happens so it's no big deal, we'll still get home at the same time!

@AbdulAzizLearner3 жыл бұрын
Horn is extremely abused there. My elderly father ran into an accident due to a honker who was honking behind him when my father was at a busy T-junction (minor to major road) about to turn left. He got under pressured and hit something on the left side (luckily wasn't a major accident). These are tragic everyday situations that reveal mentally ill masses.
