Although not overtaking a car at a slip road is great safe advice, in your instructor's defence, that car was a lot slower than him, so he would have had to slow right down from like 70 mph to 50mph to follow that car for a short distance and then overtake once past the slip road. It doesn't sound like much but in reality its a pain lol

Clip 1 I’d just sit still and wait for the oncoming car to pull into the gap and then I’d proceed when it was safe to do so, clip 2 I’d keep on going as there is enough space to pass the blue car and they’re already waiting for us, clip 3 I’d just sit and wait for the white car ahead to move out of the way first before deciding what to do next, clip 4 I’d carry on going as the oncoming car is giving way to us, clip 5 I’d pull over to let the oncoming car come through.

I think it's a bit OTT to fail for speeding at 18:06 when the 40 zone is in sight and clearly nobody is there, I guess it makes the examiner's job a lot easier though if they don't have to make their own judgement whenever somebody starts to speed up before the limit changes.

If the obstruction is on your side of the road then you should give way to oncoming cars as you will need to borrow the wrong side of the road to get around the obstruction. 🙃

Block changing is ideal for modern cars , not for old cars. I have a very old car . If the speed is reduced to 20 miles hour while crusing on 4 or 5 gear definitely my car will stall badly . This method is good for modern cars while by one by gear method is good for old cars.

I really don’t get 2 things about this video. 1. You’re driving on a dual carriageway. I’m going to have to assume that the speed limit is 70mph for this road. Why drive so slow? 2. You looked in your right hand mirror once. After the black Mondeo overtook you, you had plenty of time to glance in your mirror and change lanes without causing any bother to anyone. Why didn’t you do that? It seemed like a lot more effort to try and gauge whether he was going to hit your car rather than just pull over and let him enter. He would have soon got out of your way for you to enter lane 1 again. It seems to me that you were more bothered about making a video. Also, at the start… why brake just as the video started? You could have avoided the whole thing by overtaking the lorry. Legally you did nothing wrong, but you just lacked any common courtesy. I’m so glad my instructor taught me to be courteous to other road users, and to pick up the speed.

Stop waffling utter RUBBISH. Your first paragraph shows how little you know about driving. 70 mph is the maximum UK speed limit, it DOES NOT mean it's the safe speed to drive at.

Rover was ahead of you as the merge lane was ending........you're definitely in the wrong. You could've sped up slightly or lifted off for 2 seconds to let them go ahead of you. You should teach courtesy as well as the written law........

Respectfully disagree. You move over if and when it is safe to do so to allow cars joining from the slip road to do so safely.

As a motorcyclist I knew it was the red mini before it happened, cars arnt as agile as bikes to swerve. I never assume because I treat everybody like they are drunk. I do not like to be infront of a lorry so I do my best to get out of that situation as soon as possible.

It's been a year since I passed my driving test. I failed the first time, but passed the second time with 4 minors. Here's my advice: 1. Understand that a lot of things can impact the outcome of the test - road conditions, traffic, test route, weather, examiner's judgement. You can't make these things work in your favour, so the best you can do is drive legally and safely. 2. Try not to make the test a big deal - failing is not pleasant, but you can always retake the test. Being a safe driver is better in the long term than passing as an unsafe driver. 3. During the test, don't "try not to fail" (you may second guess your decisions instead of driving how you normally would) or assume you've failed (you won't truly know until you get back to the test centre and park up). 4. Don't tell people you have a test coming up as this adds unnecessary peer-pressure. I also think it's more exciting to tell people you've passed when they least expect it. 5. Don't spend hours the day before your test revising. You can practice things like manoeuvres an hour before your test and go over the show-me/tell-me questions, but the fundamentals of driving should not be new to you.

The mini didn't observe or move well. I wonder why the instructor didn't move to lane 2 @ about 0:37 rather than 0:42 ? What was his following distance by 0:41 ?

I don't like the way the instructor is so negative about pedestrians. "That's not a helpful place to stand" They are on a pavement outside their house. Sounds like a you problem.

It looked like the Mini first saw the car on the slip road, his attention being on the left side he signaled right, you can briefly see the mini's right indicator turn on just as the instructor's car was on the mini's side (mini's right indicator 1:11 blinked once before the instructor car was about to be side by side by it). But then the mini just changed lane after signaling and probably not doing a mirror check. Had the mini done a mirror check, he wouldn't just change lane all so suddenly. Hope everyone and everything is okay. Drive safe out there.

As an ADI, should have clocked the joining vehicle before coming out from behind that mini, whilst the mini was technically at fault for lack of observations, that instructor could/should have anticipated what was going to happen, I saw it a mile off with no formal advanced driver training or anything

You start way too far for the parked car. You have to basically be almost against the parked car in front to start with. Also, in real life, you would be blocking two lanes while doing this....

Is this accident result of mini not seeing instructor car as it was in blind spot or mini driver not checked mirror at all?

Good job by the instructor for keeping the car under control and bringing it to a safe stop. That shows they are well in control of their car. Many accidents are made much worse because people panic and lose control after an impact. I agree with everything in your analysis. Sometimes I try to think how can i maximise the time i am visible in someone's mirrors and reduce the time i am in their blind spot...

Should of been mindful of the lorry, traveling at 55 didn't really help when they can only do 57 at best I guess he /she was as critical of you as you were of them. 70 isnt a target the outside lane was clear and conditions good you could have gone a little faster as not to come into conflict with the lorry.
