Jim actually wrote this for his new born son, whom was less than 2 years old when Jim died in the plane crash. I vividly remember when Jim died. He was my favorite solo artist at the time, and frankly still is to this day. He created the most beautiful music. Very sad.

Croce wrote it for his infant son. He realised that he was often far away from home touring and feeling homesick, and wanted to spent more time with his family. And yep who knows, he may have had some premonition of his passing. He has more great songs: I Have To Say I Love You In A Song, Operator, Lover’s Cross, I’ve Got A Name, New York’s Not My Home, Working At The Carwash Blues, and more.

This song is more representative of Jim's brilliant work. There's nothing sadder than hearing an artist of this caliber who was taken from us so young singing about their limited time to do things. The news of his death was shocking and heartbreaking at the time. He had reached a peak and who knows how much further he could have gone. Check out "I Got a Name" or "Operator" next.

Jim wrote this song for his son who was at most 2-3yrs old at the time, he was Jim’s reason to start writing music again. It propelled him into the fame he would later receive. He sadly passed while his son was still very young. There is an interview with his adult son where he mentions in his own music career it took him to his later years before he could even bare to play it. He sings it now at his concerts in tribute to his father.
