That drummer was so good playing loud you hardly noticed he was back there. I'd love to play that good.

The band is also from Liverpool, so they have a good reason to sound like The Beatles. This version of the song is in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.

This was a favorite for the Beatles to cover during their days performing at the Cavern. Paul sang lead. The singing does sound like Lennon in this recording. The Beatles can be heard singing this number on the Live at the BBC set.

Blue Jeans date back to the 1880s. The key idea, of reinforcing work trousers with rivets, was patented by Levi Strauss in the 1870s, but they were pretty much the universal garb of the US manual labourer by the 1930s when John Steinbeck is describing them

A live version of "Hippy Hippy Shake" can be found on The Beatles album Live at the BBC. This version was recorded in July 1963, almost certainly pre-dating The Swinging Blue Jeans recording.

The Swinging Blue Jeans started in Liverpool as a Skiffle group. However unlike their contemporaries who switched to Rock & Roll in the late 50s, they became a pseudo-trad jazz band and eventually switched to rock in mid-1963. The group had been writing since the late 50s, but bands back then were function bands and had to play audiences knew Ray Ennis likely sounds similar to John Lennon because he also naturally has a strong, shouty voice and is also from Liverpool

This was the chart hit version early December 63 going on.into the new year. They were a Liverpool blues/ jazz band called the Swinging Blue Genes but the pun was lost on its audience so they changed the name and converted to rock n roll. This was number 2 in the chart so did almost as well as the Beatles might have done but who had not issued the song yet (as with Some Other Guy ,a rival Cavern band got in first !)

I was 22. Loved to dance to this. We had a lot of fun, nutty songs in those days. You may also listen to the Righteous Brothers "I Need Your Lovin." Short on lyrics, but lotsa wailing and crazy dance moves by Bobby. I'll be back!!

Those are called "righteous hiccups" - love your observations! Another early British classic is "Shakin' All Over" by Johnny Kidd & the Pirates. You might get a kick out of Roy Head doing "Treat Her Right" which Tom Jones covered. Don't be distracted by Roy's video if you listen to the one of an old TV show because his epileptic dance moves are mind-boggling. Can a person be triple-jointed? I think he was attempting to outdo James Brown. Keep up the good work - you seem to really love and respect the music you listen to. Glad you finally got to hear "Wichita Lineman" - another gorgeous Jimmy Webb composition as done by Glen Campbell. "diamonds in my ears" - I love it!

Have a listen to Tobacco Road-Nashville Teens, great English band, recorded in 1964. It’s a much better record imo! In the UK around 1963/4 there were many bands doing this sound, the best ones were The Animals, The Yardbirds, Them, The Kinks, The Pretty Things, The Poets, Downliners Sect and many more!

Wearing jean started in the 60's, esp with the folk movement to identify with blue collar workers for union rights. They were also originally cheap & sturdy. Changed with Calvin Klein in the late 70's when people paid $$$$ to wear someone's name on their buty.

Another cover that The Beatles slay the original of, in my opinion. Nobody counts, "One Two Three Four!" quite like Paul!

Harri, aah the swinging 60's you can't beat them, if you try to recommend something from then it would be impossible as there's literally 1000's to choose from, so I'm going with the theme of JOHN LENNON sound alike, so how about JULIAN LENNON with "SALTWATER ". keep safe kid.

Thats why these guys never made it. Theyre imitators. Jeans have been around since 1873, when Levi Strauss and a partner took out a patent. They took a tough fabric and put rivets on the pockets to keep them from tearing, since the pants were meant as work pants. The dark blue color was used to hide the dirt when used by miners and laborers . The heyday of jeans as a fashion statement was the 50s, when kids started wearing them, usually with the bottoms rolled up to show the lighter inside color, so you had to buy them longer than your normal length. Theyve been around since. Before that, they were only used as work apparel .
