Great vehicles!! I had a bit to do with this program and I can tell you for certain that these vehicles had to meet a stack of requirements that a LandCruiser or Defender just couldn't meet and that could be why Toyota and Land Rover never put in bids for the Land 121 Project!!! Here's some examples off the top of my head: - GVM of the wagon is 4,600 kg, the 4x4 cab chassis is 4,800 kg, and the 6x6 is 6,500 kg (from the factory) - Centre, Rear, and Front difflocks and high/low range transfer case (from factory) - They can all be underslung from a helicopter (2 x lift eyes on the front and 2 on the sides/rear - from factory) - Can ford up to 750 mm fresh water (which is not a huge number) but they can have engine turned off and restarted while at this depth (at 4:33 you can see the bend in the exhaust to stop water going back in the engine) - 24 V electrical system (from factory) to power military radios and comms equipment - Manual Tyre Inflation System (from factory) with compressor/tank behind the seats and a coily air hose at each wheel for inflation/deflation to set values - Tiedown provisions to allow for transport in military aircraft (from factory) - Life of Type of 30 years Don't get me wrong, I like Defenders (the older ones) and Cruisers (would love a 79 series myself) but these G-Wagons were built to meet the Australian requirement set and are pretty bloody good!!!

@techsupport876 жыл бұрын
they werent amg spec, they were g350's and all except one failed in some way or another on the trip, ur right the one which didnt fail was the upgraded version but g350's are $120k+ vehicles in aus with no mods, landcruiser 70 series are $70k for base model and can be modified just as much if not more. u could have a fully kitted out milspec landcruiser for the price of the base model g wagon, but hey taxpayer money doesnt matter anyway right?!

Why doesn't Australia just hand over every cent that is to be spent on defense to the Germans and say Fritz we are too stupid as a people now so we need you to think and make and do everything for us , because over the next four years we will be spending 650 billion on welfare and that is more important so we need to keep defense spending to a minimum so we can pork barrel the electorate .
@andicog3 жыл бұрын
Uk has done the same, we now use MAN trucks when once we had Foden, Scammell and Bedford and of course Land Rover. From what I've read, the ADF don't like the G wagon as much as the Perentie, while the Perentie could break down at least it could nearly always be fixed in the field, no electronics and simple engineering and it was of course built in Australia.
