You would be able to get through the electrical charges the same way you did getting the energy tank behind the door, by taking damage facing the other way, which will knock you through into safety.

This was the first game I bought for my PC as a kid. I actually didn't even have the computer at the time; my family had ordered one from a local computer store but we were still waiting for it to be assembled. I'd rented Mega Man 2 for the NES a bit earlier and loved it, and knowing how much more powerful the 386 that we had on the way was than my lowly NES I was expecting something absolutely amazing with this version. Things didn't quite work out that way, though.

Yeah. Honestly, this game is a lot better than I expected it to be. I've played worse DOS platformer/shooters before. If I could make a game like this in that short a time, I'd feel like a programming god.

The speed actually can be adjusted if you use the F1 and F2 keys. But it's still going to run "too fast" if the CPU cycles are too high (I use 1,000 cycles on DOS Box). The game appears to be rushed out the door and somewhat incomplete; there's an area from the underwater section of Sonic Man's world that you can jump to, only there's no bonus item or anything in there; just a bunching of "shooting pipes". Likewise, there's hazards in the Dyna Man stage that are supposed to harm you, but they instead play the game's "power up" sound effect and leave Mega Man uninjured. This is where the lasers on the left and right connect; they're supposed to be harmful, but at least one set on the far right isn't.

Even though it's infamous, Mega Man DOS has a special place in my heart, because it was my first Mega Man game. Sonic Man's section is my favorite. I do wish an updated port with the gameplay intact was made, because the controls and sidescrolling are awkward. There was an NES-styled fan remake done recently, but it didn't capture what I liked about the original. I played this when I played the Apogee platformers awhile back (I know DN1 stole textures from this), and this game, though short, taught me the mechanics of Mega Man. I do think it was deserving of a better following that Mega Man DOS 3. If only someone could do a fan game that combine the elements of Mega Man DOS with the best Apogee/id Software's classic platformers.

I think this game's seriously not too bad. It's nowhere near Mega Man's level, but for what it is, a one man creation with really old tech, I think it's alright! It's playable

I always wondered why Jazz Jackrabbit got so much praise back in the day, despite being a very lame platformer by console standards. Then I realized that stuff like THIS was the norm for platformers on the PC at the time.

Probably more for the graphics, music, and how smoothly it ran, rather than the actual gameplay.

At the end, your clues for Tyrian 2000 say that when turned around, the title will remain the same. How did you arrive at that? The characters in the title aren't the same spelt backwards, or flipped upside down, or reversed, at least not all of them, though that might be possible with certain fonts and cases maybe? The phonetics aren't the same either. Is it something I'm not seeing? Or perhaps to do with the game itself and not the name of the game? though the mention of purple makes me think otherwise. I have completed Tyrian but it was a long time ago, so can't remember if there was anything in the actual game that the clue might pertain to.

That Mega Man floppy is SOOOO familiar because I had it. I had a crappy CGA monitor and no console, so my gaming choices were limited so I enjoyed the DOS Mega Man.

I actually got the DOS Mega Man game AFTER already owning both Mega Man III and IV on the NES. I was 10 or 11 at the time and thought having the game on our Tandy 1000 SX computer was gonna be awesome... just took 15 minutes of NOT getting past the dogs to realize I was horribly mistaken... :P

I like how we mock Chinese made products for being "low quality knockoffs with zero care put into them", yet that perfectly describes 99% of Western made 80's/early 90's platform games 🤣

I had this game on PC when I was a kid. I didn't think that it was a bad game, but then again, I didn't have an NES so I didn't know any better. I think Gemini hit the nail on the head with the game's flaws. The difficulty of the game arose from the poor controls, framerate issues, and just bad level design, rather than genuine difficulty. That having been said, I wouldn't mind going back and playing this again someday for nostalgia's sake.0
