------------------------------------------
Battlezone was an incredibly popular game when it was first released because it was essentially one of the first (or perhaps even the very first) game to give players a first-person view of the battlefield to move around and shoot in. Many games came along to try and capitalize on the idea, some of which were fun, some of which weren't.
Stellar 7 is definitely one of the more interesting ones and has quite the history behind it, but this DOS version was somewhat late to the party and easily forgotten as a result.
------------------------------------------
Additional Information and Corrections:
Looks like I did make one tiny mistake, but really, how could you blame me? The original Battlezone was made by Atari, not Activision. The later Windows remake in 1998 WAS however made by Activision, as was a competing game for the Atari 2600 called Robot Tank, both of which I actually have and both of which I played before I ever played the original Battlezone. Go figure. :P
BTW: For those of you who guessed today's game would be Corridor 7, Lazy Game Reviews has a review of that game online now: • LGR - Corridor 7 - DOS...

I remember that intro better than any of the rest of the game. Its amazing how many of your videos are games I played but had no memory of the name anymore - thanks for giving names to the memories I have.

This game was also on Apple II but was just wireframe. Played it on my bros' computer. Pretty cool

This game was awesome. I loved that this game had a villian, and even (its minimal) story. I felt like I was saving the universe. Simple to pick up, difficult to master. This was one of the first PC games I had and I loved it. It's also one of those games that made games like StarFox look underwhelming. But even its sequel Nova 9 didn't grab my attention like this game.

Since about a year or so, the very similar 1990 tank game "Battle Command" by Ocean Software is available on Steam courteously of Pixel Games UK.

I remember beating this, and playing Nova 9, the sequel, which was a lot harder.

This seems like an underrated gem that should be on GOG. It's a Dynamix game, so I wouldn't rule it out. Also, funnily enough, Leisure Suit Larry now has 7 Larry Laffer sequels! (We don't count the Larry Lovage games.)

@@Pixelmusement There's a sequel? Oh, there are TWO of them! I didn't even realize Arcticfox was a sequel, I just know that game from b-roll footage during The 8-Bit Guy's video on the C64.

@@7thDementia Actually, Stellar 7 is TECHNICALLY the sequel to Arcticfox, though only in so much as the raw gameplay. :B

This game also has scientific accuracy. The stars are real stars but I do not know if any of the stars in the game except Sol (The Sun) have planets around them.

Why does your DOS music sound so good? This is clearly not the MT-32 soundtrack. What is it? I want.

Redbook CD-Audio music. I have the CD version of this game as opposed to the floppy disk version. :B

I recently re-discovered my CD of this game. Hadn't played it in about 20 years. I'm still as terrible at it as ever, though. :-)

Hey, guys.. I used to have a game that was pretty much like x-wing vs. tie fighter but it was older and on floppy disks. I've been trying to remember it for years. anyone know this one? I'd love to find an emulator.
