In this episode of "Taps and Patience," hosts Harrison and AJ dive into a week full of unexpected challenges and last-minute rush jobs. From dealing with oversized stainless steel parts to a surprise reorder from Xometry, the duo navigates the highs and lows of running a machining business. They share their experiences with complicated parts, loose probes, and the quirks of working with plastic materials. Plus, AJ discovers a material order mix-up and faces the task of machining nylon screws with tight tolerances. Tune in to hear how they tackle these obstacles while keeping their sense of humor intact.

I decided to implement lean in my shop. I buy a ton of stock on sale and I lean it against the wall.

Love your podcasts guys! I live in the plastics world. Machine at xx* Fahrenrheit (or celsius)and make certain your customers inspect at the same temperature. It will save you a lot of headaches. We have a C of C that we add to every shipment/packing list that explains this.

Hey AJ, do you have a public discord server for your community? I’m a shop supervisor and have 12 years of experience running various types of equipment. I use Fusion, and have 8 Haas machines, 1 Doosan and 1 Mazak. I’d love to be able to connect with others that are smaller scale and maybe share some knowledge or help when I get the time.

There is a Patreon Discord, but honestly it's rather dead, since there aren't that many of us. But there is a general machining discord that is really good. Besides me, Adam the Machinist is in there, Stephen G. and a few of the other youtubers. But more importantly, there are some incredibly skilled and intelligent other people that don't' do social media. Link: discord.gg/kD5Fypty
