What about consistent lying? We have often told my son that he needs to think before he speaks, and that lying about something will always get him in more trouble then telling the truth, even if it’s hard. His inability to think before he acts/speaks get in the way of this.

So what is the suggested response when they shut down and refuse to go along with the "cleanup" that they're told to do?

So a cleanup is something that is asked to do, to make amends with somebody. It is not something that is forced on, or should be a power struggle about

​@@ADHDDude Assuming they're being asked and not told, how does accountability work if they consistently shut down when asked to make amends? Without a willingness to follow through, this method of accountability seems just as ineffective as punishment.

@@timtuckercomThis is actually covered in the ADHD Dude Membership. It’s called “doing a reset.” The reset is before the cleanup. Basically, you want to have them clean it up while it’s fresh enough that they get why. But not when their feelings are so intense they can’t because they’re processing. Seriously, for $20, there’s a huge amount of helpful info, go sign up for a month and review the materials. Good luck!
