ADHD: Waiting List For ADHD Diagnosis

Just been diagnosed November 2024, now 7-10 months until medical titration process, brutal.

Glad to hear an advocate reminding that ADHD is not by any stretch a 'superpower' for many, especially for those for whom treatment/support is not readily available, or even effective. In the UK it's not just weeks, or even months, but years that most have to be on waiting lists!

It's even worse if you have co-morbidities that require medication to manage. I've got to go back to my GP to get them to agree to help me with managing my Epilepsy medication, because the specialist who diagnosed me wanted to ensure medication was an option. Sadly GPs are now more difficult to get to see than ever before, so I have to rely on a degree of luck just to be able to book an appointment.

@@Tazer_Silverscar damn. Hear you. You're right, they barely know what they're doing with just ADHD, but with co-morbids too they seem to just be clueless as well as unavailable! Hope you get something that helps sooner than later.

I'm in my 30s and am either looking at 4year waiting list in my area or about £2-3000 to get a private diagnosis. It feels impossible.

It took me nearly 1 year to get a diagnosis, and I was lucky because I got in just before I turned 25. For over 25s in the UK it can take anywhere between 3 years and 8 years on current waiting lists. I have been waiting 14 months and likely a lot longer in total to get my meds (that I was on and had to stop) because I moved area

It's cost that holds me back. $3000 here in Australia. Same for autism.

5-7 year waitlists for adults in my Canadian province. Awful.

Our pediatrician and my family practitioner were able to diagnose and treat my daughter and me with testing in their offices. Easy peasy. This is in Texas, and they both are licensed to treat, but also general practitioners.
